Keeping cats out of the crib?

Does anyone know how to keep the cat out of the crib? We have two and the one goes into the crib no matter what... we have sprayed her with water, etc... nothing works. I can't keep the door shut because we have an old fashioned heater in our home and there is only a vent in the living room for the entire house so all doors have to be open at all time for them to get heated. Ugh

Re: Keeping cats out of the crib?

Did you try tin foil? Supposedly they hate the feel and sound of it. It didn't work for my cats. My baby who pulls their ears and tails being in the crib did!

Re: Keeping cats out of the crib?

the tin foil and the tent are also what immediately comes to mind although the tin foil is difficult if you already have the child (for us we had the crib up well before the baby came and kept foil on the mattress and that deterred them). Almost 4 years later and they never go in DS's bed.

Another option (not that this is the most appealing option) is to put up a screen door so that the heat can still get through so that the cats can't get in the room at all.

might be a PITA but fill the crib with baloons when the baby is not in there.

Re: Keeping cats out of the crib?

We put up white vinyl screen doors on each of DS's rooms. They are very pretty, lightweight and allow the air to circulate. We got these at Lowes

Good luck!

We have the tent on our cosleeper, we have the same problem. One of our cats wants nothing to do with anything of the baby's and the other is all up in it. She is also the one that isn't bothered by tinfoil or being sprayed or any other thing that has been recommended.

A fitted sheet works when baby is not in the crib.

When DS is in the crib, we keep the door closed & pump up the heat & dress him in layers.

Re: Keeping cats out of the crib?

when my cat was still around, we let him sleep with the kids.. not that either one was in the crib for a long time...

we tried crib tent, but hated it, so we figured the cat sleeps with us, why cant he sleep with the kids

Re: Keeping cats out of the crib?

after DD was born, my cats did not really want to go in there anyway. we also used tinfoil, but I don't think that deterred them much - her scent did though.

We have the same problem and cant keep the door shut for heat reasons (it actually gets too hot w/ the door shut.) We put a tall gate in the door that swings open---it works so well! I have also had people suggest the screen door idea as well.
