gift for 95 year old grandma?
I always have given her a pack of her favorite cigs, fancy chocolates, and a bottle of good Vodka for her birthdays
(which, I know you can judge freely, but she's a tough old Irish broad who has no health issues except age-related ones, and who, at this point, requires very little vices, but wants to enjoy as much she can these days)
the cigs - I am not doing because we fear she will fall asleep mid-drag or something, as she is sleeping more these days.
She is not in a nursing home, still has most of her marbles, and refuses to go play bridge at the senior citizen center because she says she "can't stand those damn old people."
So, she is not your typical elderly person.
Any other ideas? What in the hell do you get someone at that age?

Re: gift for 95 year old grandma?
My step dad's grandmother is 104, and while she lives in a home, she sounds a lot like your grandma in the sense that she's an old Italian who likes her wine and she can still remember things from the early days. I know that this past Christmas, my family got her a subscription to the New York Times since she enjoys reading and keeping current. In the past, they've gotten her magazine subscriptions or books.

Re: gift for 95 year old grandma?
Just wanted to share what I've gotten my Mom, who is in a nursing home, because of her arthritis. She likes to journal, so I make sure she has a journal; She loves Large Print Word Find Books, which are cheapest at a Dollar Store. She can't seem to get enough of personal size packs of tissues, so at Christmas, I bought her some pretty ones, with a Christmas wrapper, at Michaels. She received a gift card for a restaurant, which we also received, so we can take her with us to eat out. Mary

What about a gift certificate to get her hair done?

Re: gift for 95 year old grandma?
what about a photobook from mypublisher with all her children/grandchildren in it? We also got my gran a large photo frame, with openings for about 20 pics, and filled it with photos of the whole family. she loves it, and its hanging in her room

o wow i went on the second site and saw this could you imagine!?! "When my mother turned 90, I put her picture in the paper and announced her birthday. Then I said "why don't you give her a call,( it's ok if you don't know her;)" and gave her phone number. My mother was happy answering the phone all day from well wishers. Also the gift of time spent just talking and being there means more than any gift."

Does she like to read? Maybe a book? Is she religious? Maybe a religious item of some sort?

Re: gift for 95 year old grandma?
Every year I give my grandmother an amarylis plant (they sell them in Target and other stores). It comes with the planter and the moss for top. She likes putting it together and the wait for it to bloom.

Re: gift for 95 year old grandma?
Go for the vodka and maybe get her a flavored one!
I think the hair g/c is a good idea, too.
Maybe take her for a manicure and lunch?
BTW, no judging! We would always get my great grandmother a bottle of gin and a pack of sen sen!
