Spinoff of 7 Eleven post

Would you leave DC alone in the house if you would have to walk your dog.
I have to walk my dog every morning, sometimes around 9am, sometimes before 7am and most of the time ( in a winter) I leave DS alone in a house for a couple of minutes.
What would you do?

Where are you walking the dog... In the yard, around the block?

Re: Spinoff of 7 Eleven post

while no, I wouldnt, ever...I dont think 4 or 5 houses is the worst thing in the world. however, if you are only going 4 houses why not just do laps around your yard or something?

My fear is god forbid there is a fire or something, you are then stuck outside with your baby in the house.

I have when we rented, didn't have a yard and DH was out of town. I wouldn't go for a full walk, just enough to get her to do her thing and run back in.

I wouldn't be comfortable. I agree making laps across the street & back & forth would be my preference.

I would need to be able to see the house.

When I rented, I usually took DD with me, however there were moments when I just stood outside of my Garden apartment (my apt door led to the outside, no hallway) and let my dog do her business, in the rain, snow, if DD was sleeping, etc... I had one of those long retractable leashes.

Re: Spinoff of 7 Eleven post

We live in an apartment and we can't use the yard. I don't go far, always see the house, but I have to make sure my dog goes number 2 before I go to work. In a spring I always take DS with me, but I can't do that now, especially in this snow.
Sometimes if he is sleeping I bring my monitor.

Nope and I would be careful who you tell that to. Leaving your child home alone at that age can get you in a lot of trouble. It's one thing if you are in the yard, but leaving the property to go down the road just doesn't seem like a smart idea

Re: Spinoff of 7 Eleven post

For me, I would not have a problem going down the street and back knowing the house was locked. But I have also been known to put DS to bed, take the VM with me to my neighbors and hang out for a few hours over there on their back porch in the summer. Not many people would even go in their own backyard, let alone a neighbor's. So, I guess I'm pretty lax when it comes to that stuff.

I wouldn't. Maybe if it was right in the yard, but not down the block.

Re: Spinoff of 7 Eleven post

Yes, I would. You're within a distance that you can see the house. I don't see an issue with it--especially if you're only gone like 5 minutes.

Honestly, I dont see anything wrong with it. And I certainly will be sitting out on the deck in the backyard sipping margaritas in the summer while DS is sleeping. I also go to the mailbox. I also sit out on the stoop.

That said, all the above are when DS is sleeping. He is nearly 15 months old and would not feel comfortable leaving him roaming as he is a menace Chat Icon. But on occassions I have put him in his crib for containment purposes if need be.

Do what you need to doChat Icon

If it has to be done,it has to be done. Stay in view of the house. I also strap my DC in a small stroller and bring her, when I know she is being too rambunctious.

yes. but we live in a co-op and the courtyard is right outside my door. I would stay out there and rush the dog. I hate having to leave DD

Re: Spinoff of 7 Eleven post

When Peyton was a baby, I would leave her in the crib while I walked DD#1 to the bus stop on my corner(in the winter). I would bring the monitor with me. It is one house away.

Me too... she comes with me to do laundry, and even take out the trash (which is a 2 sec job)
