Who has thrombophilia?

I found out I have this and basically the doctor gave me a lot of information on it - put me on Lovenox and says its treatable....but he also gave me a 8 page pamphlet to educate myself....
and throughout the entire 8 pages I just paid attention to the part that goes : Thrombophilia may lead to :

Cancer
Heart attack
Heart failure
High Blood Pressure

and im thinking im going die...

I guess it depends on what Thrombophilia you have? There are several different clotting genes you could have...


I have two copies of MTHFR ( but with normal homocysteine levels), protein S and Annexin.

My hematologist told me that they are not even things I need to worry about for myself. They put me on lovenox after my 2nd miscarriage...b/c I could form microscpoic clots that WOULD NOT affect me, but could effect the baby in a pregnancy.

I think you just need to find out more about what clotting disorder you have, but most you should be fine,

Online and articles I think talk more about the worst case scenarios.

First of all most people about 50% of women have this. Some people it affects & some it doesnt. There are also so many different gene combos u can have. Some are more serious then others. I too ave MTHFR i have 2 copies of the A1 which is the least to worry about and not linked to M/C's. But i am still on a baby aspirin a day just in case. So there are many different reasons to not worry.

I should know more about this than I do, but, I have the MTHFR mutation, and 1 other that I am drawing a blank on right now. I was devastated when I found out, because this could be the cause of our loss of Sarah, but, I'll never know.

I'm on lovenox, baby aspirin, and high doses of folic acid.

I have it too and have no idea what type...lol.

Dr. B went over the results with me but all I heard was blah, blah, blah, its treatable, blah, blah, blah

I should really look into this a little more.

I am on lovenox and have been since I got PG. I also take a baby asprin.

I found these statistics and article which should make you feel better.


I know for me, all of the Dr's did not think the clotting genes were what caused my m/c's.. ( especially since my homocysteine levels were normal). But since I had two losses it didnt hurt to be more aggresive and try the lovenox for treatment. I am not sure if this is the reason I had a succesful pregnancy the 3rd time...but I will probably continue the treatment for all future pregnancies.

: Almost half of the population is "MTHFR hetero" - it is nothing abnormal. The heterozygous MTHFR mutation (= 1 "abnormal" gene) does not lead to increased homocysteine levels.

The MTHFR mutation is extremely common:

•44 of the population have the normal enzyme
•44 % are heterozygous for the mutation (i.e. have 1 variant gene). These individuals have some normal enzyme and some of the thermolabile variant of the enzyme.
•12 % are homozygous for the mutation (i.e. have 2 variant genes). All of these individuals' enzyme is the thermolabile variant.

Thank you =) I kinda realized this when I told my OB doc what was going on and he said everyone has blood clotting that see's that doctor....i feel better but I am so afraid of needles...that the lovenox gives me anxiety! ugh but of course i will continue!

I was so afraid of the needles too. I was terrified, I would wimper just when I had to give blood work.

The lovenox needles really arent bad. And after a week or two of injecting you will become a pro.
