Hi! FH and I are looking to buy a house and have seen a few in the Farmingville area. I was hoping that those of you who are familiar with the area could give me a bit of info...likes, dislikes, opinions, etc. Thanks!

Re: farmingville

It's most well-known for the day laborers who congregate by the 7-11. For school districts I think it's Sachem and Longwood. A good friend lives in medford very close to Farmingville. I don't think there's much to love about it, having been there, but it is convenient to Nicolls.

Re: farmingville

We rent a house here in Farmingville. it's getting us by right now LOL. I never go to 7-11 or anything early in the day due to all the day laborers just hanging around ... other then that... its not bad...but nothing too grand about it either. Our little naighborhood is pretty great./... but most of the people also rent, so it's not a lifetime neightbor...KWIM? I feel a few blocks makes a huge difference...right on the other side of 83 the houses are MUCH bigger and nicer and taken care of. Def talk to the people living close to you if you plan on buying...
Oh, and there are alot of people that are 'to themselves'... a new house got built behind us, about our age, and we've talked to them many times, but it always seems like they dn't want to talk. Now they have a white pvc fence up and if we wave when we see them, they dont wave back, so we gave up LOL. BTW, it is sachem district... that's all I know HAHA

we saw a house that was close to the sccc selden campus (a little south of it) and we are also seeing another one that is west of nicolls rd.

Re: farmingville

I grew up in Farmingville and still live here. My parents house is near SCCC and is MUCH better then the part of Farmingville that I live in now. Now our house is right near 83 and the service road. It's not horrible but it's not great. Unfortunately people use my road as a shortcut for Horseblock Rd. to the service road so that is my biggest complaint-- cars flying down the road at 90 mph.

You are definitely close to many things--main roads,, food stores, Target, Kmart, etc. All of Farmingville is Sachem schools.

You would definitely be in the better part of town in both of those locations.

Re: farmingville

My DH and I grew up in commack area so when we found our house out here 6 years ago it was going to be a hard please. We love the school district. Its sachem. Coming from a stellar school district plus Im a teacher it was very important to us both to buy a house with a good school district. Secondly our house is huge and its on a 1/2 acre property. We knew we would get so much more out here rather than commack. We both love it out here. We are in between blue point rd and berkshire inbetween granny and mooney pond. Our block and many of the blocks have houses that have been rebuilt in the last 10 years. Beautiful victorians, raised ranches. Very convenient for LIE and sunrise (nicolls) Shopping is great a quick 15 minutes from smithhaven mall. Love my block/court. The day laborers do not bother anyone, by afternoon they are not even there anymore. And that only happens right off of north ocean ave and some parts of horseblock. good luck!
