Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

a bag of dum dum lollipops, seriously.

We poured out the bag into a bowl and kept in on the kitchen table in plain sight, so the temptation for one was always there. Hed ask, and wed say, "no, those are special treats for when you go on the potty"

He was DYING for one, so it really motivated him!

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

What we have been doing is I made a potty chart and got potty stickers. For the chart: Pee got one sticker, peeing but missing the bowl with a substantial amount got 1/2 a sticker, poop got 2 stickers. When he filled the chart - he did it today - so one week of potty training he got to pick a toy. He chose Monster Truck Mater - the Tormentor. I got it at TRU today for him.

I also got a book of Thomas reward stickers for $2 for 1000 stickers from BBB. Every pee gets a Thomas sticker. Poop rewards have been: matchbox cars, a cookie, m&ms, a full page of Thomas stickers from the Thomas reward stickers, I got a 5 pack of Chuck and Friends trucks on sale from Walmart for $8 and each time gets one of the trucks. The first time he pooped on the potty he got a bigger prize - the Alex shaving kit. I try to spend $2 or less on the prizes and most are less than that.

ETA: He had one pee accident on Monday and one pee accident on Tuesday but has been fine since.

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

DS is 2 1/2. He has been doing amazing. He just does peepee. When he has to poop, he asks for a diaper and hides behind the couch.

I have been doing m&m's and also sticker chart(after about 10 stickers i was planning on a tru trip). But being a man...he clearly into the instant gratification of the candy.

How long do you keep rewarding for the potty?

Id like to lean more towards little toys than candy. But its the only thing that he seems to get very excited for.

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

We used this.

Potty Training Chart with Stars

It has different things to do to earn reusable star stickers.

Go fast - we said "getting to the bathroom fast"

Go Potty

Wash Hands

Dry Day - I drew 5 circles in the dry day section, if she had a dry day she got to put a star there before bed. After she went to bed I cleared all the stars except for the dry day section so we could start fresh.

5 Dry days and she got a reward. For her it was a princess dress. It took 7 days to get the 5 dry days and there's been no going back since.

With each success DD got to put a star on the chart. We made a big deal celebrating each star.

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

I feel the same way as you do, as I don't love giving candy as a reward. I plan on keeping up with the poop "rewards" for a bit as he is only going every other day. He is 100% holding it - so I want to get him to every day where it is more natural for him. His first instinct is still to want to run under our dining room table and I want to change that. Once I think he has mastered it, I am going to make a certificate and that will be the end of the toys for poop. I can see us doing the poop rewards - i.e. stickers for a bit longer. My logic behind giving cars and such is that I want him to want to poop and I know that this is incentive for him. He picked out all of his rewards so he knows they are there for him and asks for them too. As for pee - I don't run to give him stickers as much as I did at the beginning of the week. I will slowly phase them out when I feel that he has mastered it.

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

Silly Bands.

I was not going to do rewards but people keep giving me packs of Silly bands so I gave one to my DS once after he went potty. Now I find that the promise of another Silly Band works all the time. Thanks to the LIFer who told me to look for Disney ones. Those are extra special!!!! He only gets to play with the bracelets under supervision, though.

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

we started training a week ago (put DS right into underwear and he hasnt been in a diaper since), at first DS was getting a sticker and m&m for pee pee and if he went poop he got all that and a coin to put in his bank. However after 3-4 days he stopped asking and now just goes (he gets so proud of himself- i think it is the best reward for him lol). If he asks though I will still give the candy and stickers to him though. It def helped motivate him in the beginning. Good luck!

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

DD is alll about the disney princesses. So we bought the princess pull ups and the princess pull up wipes.

Every time she peed on the potty she'd say "princess wipes." And that is what she used to wipe herself.

WE also put them in her backpack for school. It seemed to help.

Now she uses toilet paper.

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

First weekend of training he got stickers, 5 mms for pee, 10 for poop, and random $1 toys - coloring books, little things. At the end of 4 days, when he really had it, he got a $20 guitar we knew he would love (he's really into music). Now that he has it, over 2 wks in, he gets a pooi prize only -- cars, yesterday a spiderman lunchbox, etc.

Re: Please post you potty training incentive...

We started 10 days ago and motivate with stickers and a prize bag.

We bought the Dora sticker chart and she gets to put stickers on it for sitting on the potty, going tinkle, washing her hands, flushing and pulling up her pants.

I like it because in the beginning she would get something for even trying even if she didn't actually make it to the potty or if nothing came out. She has used up all the stickers that came with it, but I bought a roll of stickers at the dollar store and she uses those.

Now, I just give her a strip of stickers since she does all of the activities. She put them on the chart.

The prize bag we use when she actually goes on the potty (number 1 or number 2). She gets to pick a prize from it. We loaded it up with toys from the dollar store-however, not that she is getting the hang of this, we are going through it pretty quickly. We are going to switch to lollipops for tinkle on the potty and prizes just for the elusive number 2.

Once she can master number 2 on the potty we will keep it around for a little longer and just use it for nights with no accidents.

The plan is to migrate everything to lollipops and then do away with all of them when the lollipops are depleted.
