Those with more than 1 DC...

How are your kids different?
I'm starting to notice vast differences between DS and DD.....

DS was a HORRIBLE napper... DD goes down like a dream and sleeps for hours!

DS used to bang his head on the floor all the time when he was crawling, rolling over, sitting up. DD somehow manages to keep her head up all the time.

DS will wear anything you put on his head... hats, bags, pots, whatever! DD refuses to keep a hat on her head... she will grab it the second you put it on!

With DD I can actually see her thought process at 8 months old. She will be standing up holding onto the couch and see a toy on the floor away from her. I will watch her look at the toy, put her hand out and bend down until she touches the floor, get on the floor, crawl over to the toy and get it. I don't remember seeing such thoughtfullness with DS.

DS wanted NOTHING to do with pacifiers. DD is such a paci baby.

It is just so interesting to me to see how different they are. So I was wondering what differences you notice in your DC!

The biggest difference i notice is their personalitys.

My older DD was a happy kid, but it took some work to get her to smile.

My younger DD smiles all the time. She just loves the attention.

DD#1 is quiet

DD#2 is crazy

DD#3 runs around the house singing all day Chat Icon

DD#1 was cranky her 1st month and then slept the whole night after

DD#2 was the hardest by far ! She was constantly crying for the first 3 months and would wake up at the sound of a pin drop

DD#3 was the easiest !

My boys are so different and I love it! DS was was an amazing napper and still is, DS is an awful napper. Luckily unlike DS1, DS2 is happy all the time. DS 1 was not as pleasant. DS1 was torture to get eat, but DS2 LOVES to eat! It's great!. DS1 is not as sociable as DS2, who craves attention. DS2 is only 6 month so these are the only differences so far, but I am sure there will be more.

Oh I know, DD is only 8 months so I am so looking forward to seeing how else she is different from DS as she gets older! Chat Icon

Re: Those with more than 1 DC...

I'm always commenting on how totally different my two are.

DD#2 is MUCH more laid back. I say no to something and she almost immediately stops what she is doing and moves on. She is VERY cautious. She will hold my hand 90% of the time (DD#1 wouldn't hold my hand until 19 months and only 10% of the time). In fact she was walking later - b.c outside of the house she refused to walk without holding my hand even when she was walking independently at home. She is a HUGE talker at home - she sings a lot of songs (happy birthday to mama, itsy bitsy spider, ABCs, etc), is saying some 2-3 word sentences that DD didn't say until she was 2 and later but won't talk at all outside of the house. She is shy, very shy sometimes - and is very attached to mommy, she is happy to hold my hand or sit in my lap most of the time. DD#2 is doing things much earlier than her sister was doing them (except for walking) which I guess is b/c she has her sister to teach her?

DD#2 is growing much faster than her sister and is a good 3-6 months ahead in size from where her sister was at the same time. The poor thing has almost no hair - her sister had more hair at 6 months than DD#2 has at 15 months.

She walks up to DD#1's potty and says "pee pee in the potty mama" or poo poo in the potty mama" - (no we aren't PT her yet) - when she has a dirty diaper she gets me and walks me to the changing table and hands me a diaper. Her sister on the other hand - another thread on that one - but is not completely trained yet.

At the pool - she will walk towards the pool or the playground etc and will stop and let me know she wants to go in and will wait for me to get there and hold her hand and take her into the kiddie pool. Her sister (DD#1) on the other hand would just run off and run straight for the water and jump in. She would give us heart attacks b.c she would chase the 4 and 5 year olds right off the open edges if you aren't standing there to stop her - so you have to watch her like a hawk.

DD#1 is VERY independent. She used to be very intense but that is getting better. She is definitely high spirited and fiercely independent. I hear all day "I do it ALL BY MYSELF mommy"- she is getting better - but isn't a sitter, she is VERY social - as preschool tells me she is SUPER social. She is my little actress (the dress up and doll play are rubbing off on her sister though). She just has a huge personality. Generally she wants to be everyone's friend - and goes up to every child she sees and asks their name. She asks to bring toys to the playground to share with the other children. She can be a smart alec- you say to her "if you do it again you will lose x book or x toy" She will pick up x book or toy and walk over to our stair gate throw it over the side and say "bye bye x". She is a hugger and gives you the biggest smiles in the world as she says "best mommy EVER!" - She knows how to play Daddy, grandma and poppop to get what she wants. When she was DD#2's age and we would take classes she would want to sit in other mom's laps but not mine- and even in preschool she would pop into another mom's lap and say "Hi how are you?" She had them laughing and telling me how outgoing she is. She is known as the laughing Kaitlyn by her friends.

My 2 are pretty different but one thing they have in common is being stubborn Chat Icon

The biggest difference I noticed and from early on was that DD would figure out how to do things on her own. She never wanted help.
We used to have a 2 level patio and it was 1 step that separated it. When DD started walking around 14 months she made it seem so easy to just walk up to the planter hold on and just walk down. DS (who is 14 months older than her) took forever to figure that out.
Things that she does by herself my DS is screaming that he needs help. Basically she is more self sufficient and my DS gets SO frustrated SO FAST if he can't do something and immediately wants help. DD wants no help at all and sits and figures it out.

Re: Those with more than 1 DC...

DD was a fabulous sleeper. Always napped well and sttn at 8 weeks old.
DS is a horrible sleeper. He's awake pretty much all day and still, at 8 weeks old, gets up twice a night.

DD was a very difficult infant to deal with. Very colicky. Always crying or whining.
DS is VERY laid back. He just hangs out. Really only crys when he's hungry.

That's really all I've noticed so far....

Re: Those with more than 1 DC...

Same here!

Both happy kids but that's about where it ends.

DS ignores me and was never a clingy child. Always went to everyone.

DD is a mama's girl and cries if anyone goes near her. Takes a while to adjust.

DS was always extrememly aware but my DD is even more so. She is very manipulative even at 11 months old.

DS never slept well and still doesn't.
DD sleeps awesome and did from the beginning.

I LOVE it. Its so interesting to see there different personalities!

You know my kids. I really don't think it is possibly for 2 kids to be any more different. Chat Icon Chat Icon
