What spices did you introduce to your infant?
I made myself a baked sweet potato and I put on butter and cinnamon. I gave a tiny bit to DS and he gagged. I think it might have been too much.
He was fine with the butter with pastina though. What other spices did you introduce and how old were they?
I'm thinking I can start these in the next few months (not to rush any, and no particular order):
olive oil garlic salt?
Idk what else, but some recipes for babies include spices. WDYT?

Re: What spices did you introduce to your infant?
Within the last month or so I've done butter, cinnamon, parsley, rosemary, basil and black pepper...no oil, just haven't made anything with it yet. I'm going to hold off on salt as long as possible. Garlic is next, nutmeg?
Oh and I made my own chicken stock which had bay leaves and thyme in it, not sure if that counts.

Re: What spices did you introduce to your infant?
DS is 6 months and he has had cinnamon - which he loves! He also has had tastes of marinara sauce which have a bunch of spices in it.
He is starting meats next month and I figure that is when he will start being exposed to more spices. I plan on making his meat and I will be seasoning it.

Was thinking of adding some ground ginger to carrots, that would work, right? And I didn't think of mint - what did you do that with?

wow! Ok, I have a lot to look forward to! We have no food allergies at all in our families so I'm not afraid of anything, but I'm glad to know there arent that many restrictions.

the only thing I don't do is spice (heat). no jalapeno, no ground pepper, no curry.
YET.
I also don't want him to be like me. as a kid, I thought Domino's pizza sauce was spicy

Peas and mint - true. Too bad one of mine refuses the peas. I have tzatziki in the fridge but we haven't done any dairy yet (other than butter) so I'll probably start with plain greek yogurt first and then move onto the hard stuff
Carissa, sorry to hijack! Hopefully this is helping

So glad you posted this - I have a few more months to wait, but I can't wait either to have him try different flavors. The 100 Best Baby Purees by Anabel Kormel has some good recipes with spices.

Re: What spices did you introduce to your infant?
you could also do mint with watermelon. my MIL smashes the watermelon to make it a thick juice since it's so watery already. you could easily mash mint into that.
and then make one for yourself with a little rum.
I think I may do that tonight!

Each and every single one that we eat. Her ped told me to introduce them to her as I was making her food since they are things that we eat all the time.

Re: What spices did you introduce to your infant?
I started at 6 months with a bit of cinnamon in apple sauce and sweet potatoes.
Then I added basil to carrots.
I used onions, garlic and other spices to cook meat before I pureed it. Then I started with nutmeg and stuff in the pumpkin and squash.

Re: What spices did you introduce to your infant?
Don't forget about vanilla, which you can add to apples, pears, etc. I haven't done it yet, but only because I'm waiting for in-season apples before I make apples and pears for DD. Smitten Kitchen baby has only a few recipes on it so far, but most of them use a spice or two.
