1st grade teachers!!
After 11 years in 4th grade, I will be teaching 1st grade. Can anyone tell me things I will need to get for this new grade? Also, if anyone has any creative activities they have done or special things you do with your clas, I would really appreciate it.

Everything for AT LEAST the first 2 weeks of school is classroom management. I taught K for 4 years and moved to first. I thought they were going to be capable of so much more, but really, Sept.-Nov. was like teaching K without an aide (which my district has) . Once they get to be indpendent it's great because they are still cute and sweet at that age  Good luck!

ITA! I've been teaching kindergarten for 14 years- without an aide (my district doesn't have them as well) and everything is management...
quick advice- although 1st graders can do more than kinders still find your "helpers"- who can tie shoes, who are good on the computer, who can zip, button, etc... make them your go to kids and you'll get more done. It helps tremendously!
