Re: How concerned are you about the oil spill?

It's disgusting...absolutely disgusting. Aside from the obvious damage...what about all those that are invertible affected by this? Those that rely on tourism in the effected areas where the tourism is now gone? The fishermen? The fish market? All those small business that rely so heavily on this? Who's going to help them out?

Then there is the dispersement agents. No one has any idea on what the long term effects are going to be on our ecosystem. Those effects could potentially be even more dangerous.

All this and BP gets a slap on the risk. Just a slap. They destroy so much and it costs them so little.

I am extremely concerned and saddened. I can't even imagine how long it is going to take our eco system to recover from this sort of catastrophe.

I just cannot fathom that with all of these smart people in the world that we cannot find a solution...........

ITA. Open this up to every scientist, ecologist etc. take new ideas and analyze their effectiveness. Also what kind of multi billion dollar company doesn't have a disaster plan?

They have a disaster plan. The disaster plan says that they can handle a disaster even BIGGER than this one. Unfortunately, it is all hypothetical and until a disaster actually happens, they can never prove it works / doesn't work.

I am not making excuses for them but factually, they DID have a plan, just not a functional plan that worked. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I actually heard on the radio today the CEO said we do not know how to deal with a spill of this magnitude, at this depth

Very concerned..... saddened, and disgusted.

As much as I want to lay blame - I simply can't - what's done is done and it's devastating.

I can't believe how bad the oil spill is and that they have been unable to stop it. I have boycotted BP and refuse to go there for gas.

I am pretty concerned. I think that we should all be. This is going to be a huge problem within our eco system and environmentally... It's quite sad. Typing this makes me tear up. Humans have ruined our planet...sorry but everything is falling into place according to a very popular book. Every great nation fallls.....Chat Icon

It's horrible and I am very concerned about it, and I do think the oil will make its way out in to the carribean and ruin the clear blue beaches there. Not to mention all the wildlife and marine life that's being killed...

Re: How concerned are you about the oil spill?

Just from a different perspective...

My husband works for Transocean, his rig is actually working on the relief well right now. One of our very good friends was on the Horizon and was literally one of the last 4 people to escape from the rig. My heart wept that day for his wife, who sat for hours waiting to hear if he was alive.

I"m not going to agree or disagree with any of you, some of you had some good points, others have been affected by the medias coverage of this disaster. Drilling is a industry that not many people know much about and definitely don't quite grasp everything when they report and write their stories or sit on congressional panels questioning the crew and company heads.

I pray for a solution to this and I do assure you, that BP and Transocean are honestly doing their best to end this disaster. But in all of this, please remember the families of the 11 men lost and for the families of those still alive who's husbands, sons and fathers continue to work on wells around the world that they will not have to use their "emergency hot line" number.
