Weirdo question of the day-updated page 2, with why I am NOT crazy
Bored-it's the day after a long weekend so indulge me:
Before using the toilet-does anyone else check for snakes as you lift the lid?
I have done this for years-ever since I heard a story about a snake (a boa constrictor I think) getting loose from it's tank and being found in the bathroom of a neighbor
I have to say, I check for lizards too. No real reason except those things could be anywhere.

this is so funny because on Sunday I was visiting my dad and hes a super in an apartment complex and he was telling DH and I that one time he got a call from a tenant saying there was a huge snake in her bathtub. Turns out, the apartment above her had a 4 foot snake that got loose and got into the apartment downstairs through the plumbing and when this lady went into her bathroom... BAM 4 foot snake. I think I honestly would have fainted. He said he had to call some pet shop that specialized in reptiles and that they would take it away for free but if they had to chase him it would cost 75 dollars. My dad had to sit in the bathroom with the thing to make sure he didnt get away until they showed up to get him. gross. you can bet ill be checking for now on

I don't check for snakes, I check for spiders I have horrible semi-irrational fears of a spider crawling up my leg or on my butt while I am using the bathroom.

LI-I realize it is a pretty irrational fear (except for the lizards, because I now live in NC and we have some of these creeping around)

Then I totally understand! If I lived somewhere where lizards or snakes could enter my home, then I would check my toilet and my bed. I'm soooo not a fan of scaly things.

I don't, but when I lived in NC I worked at an apt complex and a tenent went into her bathroom one morning and thought she saw something on the floor near the toilet. She hadn't turned on the light and when started to reach down to get it, she realized it was a snake (a copperhead or some other poisonous one they have down there.) 
Since she was on the 2nd floor they assumed it came up through the toilet.

I *was* going to say you're a weirdopants but then I remembered once I was on a flight and went to use the toilet and there was a Snake In the Toilet On a Plane.
I wrote a book about it and sold the movie rights but they chopped up the story and the movie was only about 1/2 accurate.

Not anymore. But when I first bought my house a spider bit my arse when I was sitting on the toilet. It took me a while to get over that.

No snakes .. but I do check for Barbie heads... when I was little my little brothers and sisters used to break there heads off and throw them in the toilet .. so I have a habit of checking :)

Yes! I check for snakes every time... and at night I will turn the light on in the bathroom just to check for snakes in the toilet before I sit I know it sounds nuts but ever since I saw on the news a story about a snake in someone's toilet, I can't use it without checking!
