Should I ask the dr for an induction?

I am torn, and it never occurred to me to be induced until my aunt mentioned it this past weekend. We are in the process of relocating to Ohio for my husband's job. My husband moved there last week to start the job and DS and I are here until the baby arrives (due June 22). All of my family is here helping me out, and I planned on calling DH when I went into labor and assume that he's going to be able to hop on a flight and make it here in time. My aunt suggested that I schedule an induction so that I can be sure DH will be here. I'm not sure if this is a legitimate reason for having an induction, and I'm not sure if I should even ask the doctor about it. I'm also afraid of the induction turning into a c-section. What would you do?

I don't think your Dr will schedule an induction for scheudling reasons.
I assume there has to be a valid, medical reason.

Re: Should I ask the dr for an induction?

I think that SOME Dr.s would agree to do this, though I wouldnt want to have a Dr. that would. Unless it is medically necessary or you are overdue, I do not think that a dr should induce you.

If he agrees, i think it can cause an issue with your Insurance. My Dr. called the hospital yesterday to schedule my induction and I heard him say no it is not elective it is for medical reasons.

Re: Should I ask the dr for an induction?

I know my doctors would not schedule an induction unless it was 10 days after my due date or their was a medical reason...my cousin's doctor scheduled an induction at her convenience so she could choose her hospital to deliver at and so that she could have her parents fly in, all before she was 40 weeks...I would ask your doctor if you want to try for that and see if they are receptive.

I don't believe an induction for no reason is legal. And personally I wouldn't do this unless your over-due or some other medical reason.

I was induced with pitocin, but I was having contractions, had my bloody show, and I was 3-4 cm at the time they checked me.

Re: Should I ask the dr for an induction?

I would talk to my OB about it. I think they stress of not knowing if DH will be able to get back in time would make me crazy if not physically sick. I personally know girls who had elective c-sections (and not instead of vbac- I mean just because they wanted to). I hate to be the black sheep but I don't think it's such a crazy thought like the pps seem to think...

Re: Should I ask the dr for an induction?

As someone who was induced for medical reasons and ended up with a c-section, I'd never choose to be induced b/c of a scheduling issue.
