The shrink on the show.....what is her deal with the baby?

Violet, she was attacked towardd the end of her term by a patient that believed the baby was her own. She was cut open and left to die while the patient escaped with the baby. Shortly after the baby was born, she gave him to Pete (the dad). She couldn't look at the baby without being reminded of the attack.
