Starting to freak out...

so, my dr. said that there is 40% chance of having a c-section when being induced... but that's if the cytotek (cervadil equivalent) works. He also feels that a c-section is not out of the question with the size of the baby (which he will be verifying with a sono - even though it'll be an estimate) he feels that the baby will be easily 9lbs.
I don't know if I am making sense right now... but in short, I really don't want to be induced, but I feel like, even though I've had acupuncture (and a 2nd session on Tues), it's not going to work and will have to have the induction or c-section anyway - regardless of my attempts to holistically induce labor.

I'm just scared... and even though I've told others not to be afraid - that it's only going to make things (the pain) worse... I can't help but feel like this.

Can someone please reassure me that:
a. an induction isn't that bad...
b. the recovery of a c-section isn't terrible...

but! If it is bad/terrible/painful/etc., please let me know that too... I'm a realist - and don't want to paint the future with butterflies and fairy tales.

I was induced and had a vaginal birth. Plenty of women do.

Re: Starting to freak out...

It's definitely normal to be freaking out..especially when it wasn't something you were planning on

And remember 40% is still less than half...

I've had a few friends and family members who have had c-sections. The majority basically all say the same thing, that the healing is worse then the actual c-section, but that it isn't horrible. I had one friend who had a c-section and HATED the healing, but in all honesty, she is NOT good with pain at all. And on the other hand, I have a cousin who was induced and ended up having a c-section and wished they would have done it so much sooner since she said it was so easy. With her second they automatically scheduled the c-section and she said it was the best thing in the world...

I think all in all, it is similar to vaginal birth, in the sense that everyone is differant.

When it is time, and you know that baby will be in your arms any moment , you won't care how they get it out.

I have been induced twice with my twin boys. I went to 0 centimeters after my first boy was born and then finally an hour and a half hour later I had my second!
Inducing isn't bad at all. I didn't have a c-sec.
Good Luck!Chat Icon

i wasn't induced but had 2 c-sections...i cried my eyes out then they mentioned the word c-section during my labor....but it was for nothing. both c-sections went just totally fine and recovery for me was not bad at all. i was truly up and running by 2 weeks. i know it's major surgery and i am not trying to trivialize it, but i wanted to tell you it's not as horrific as you might think it is!
good luck! whatever happens...it's going to be ok!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Starting to freak out...

I was induced at 7 pm and had DD vaginally at 3 am.

The induction wasnt that bad. The drs told me that my labor would start progressing really quickly and the pain was intense, but the epidural really helped.

Re: Starting to freak out...

My SIL was induced three times and had three vaginal births.

I had a c-section for failure to progess, it was not that bad to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I was in pain after and there was more of a recovery time but it was not horrific. As long as the baby and you are safe, that is what matters!

Re: Starting to freak out...

I was induced with DS and delivered vaginally and had an overall good experience. If your Dr is worried about the cervidil not working, I would ask about a balloon cathetor. I don't know why more practices don't use this method, but it's what the Dr. used on me. They balloon cathetor (feels like an internal) was inserted and then she inflated the balloon. I went from barely 1cm to 4cm overnight with no medication or discomfort.

Re: Starting to freak out...

I don't have any experience with induction but I had a scheduled c-section with my first DS and it was so easy that I'm planning a repeat with this one.

I felt nothing during the whole procedure except for some tugging and bam!, 20 minutes later I had my beautiful DS laying on my chest.

I was allowed to try to bf right in the recovery room, then they took him for about 2 hours while I recovered.

I had a morphine drip in the hospital but barely used it and no pain meds at all after I left the hospital.

My recovery was great and I really had a positive c-section experience.

Re: Starting to freak out...

I was induced with my second and from start to finish the entire thing was less than 5 hours...And it was a great experince..I was able to get the epi as soon as I wanted it and after that it was virtually pain free...I had a nice easy vaginal birth following the pitocin...
