Can't believe the two idiot moms in the peds office tonight (about swine flu)
I had to bring Tyler to the ped. to check his ear tonight. I always go in the mornings so never deal with other patients really. I walked in and there was a mom sitting there with her daughter. I sat next to them (not thinking). Another mom comes out of the exam room with her 3 boys and apparently knew the mom I was sitting next to and says "he has swine flu". My heart immediately dropped b/c the last thing I need is to bring something home to a 7 wk. old. Anyway, this is where I can't believe the stupidity of people.
Mom A: He has swine flu.
Mom B: He said she only has bronchitis.
Mom A: I'll bet you a Chanel Lipgloss she has swine flu 
Mom B: Don't tell the school he has swine flu. Just tell them he has bronchitis otherwise they'll make you keep him out of school the whole week and he'll be home.
Mom A: Good idea.
As soon as my ped. saw me he brought me in his office to check TJ's ear and keep him away from the swine flu. I didnt let him touch anything, I actually held him (we were only there maybe 15 min.).
When I got into my dr's office I said "well those two were idiots" and this is why I love my ped. he says "which one?" 
I am flabbergasted a mother would send her kid to school with the swine flu so she doesnt have to be bothered with him at home. Some people are so stupid.
ETA: I asked my ped. if I have to worry about DS picking it up since we were in the office and he told me know b/c the kid wasnt coughing or sneezing on him. I pray he is right

I did. He told her he needs to stay home for a week even though he was prescribed tamiflu (the mother announced it to the office).

The Chanel lipgloss comment was funny and it is something that I might have said jokingly. The rest is absolutely appalling . What is wrong with people?
Even bronchitis is serious. I can understand where it would be a relief to hear that it is not swine flu but these moms are acting like they do not even need to monitor a child who has bronchitis.

I believe this....some parents will def do this...I have seen it with reg sickness too....I hope your ds and you are fine...I think the dr office should have done something too though...I know with mine, if you think its a contagious thing, they bring you right in a side door into an exam room...but thats just my two cents....

This is why it upsets me that they aren't even testing some people just treating it as swine. I think it should be documented so they can keep track of it!

As the mom of a 3rd grader who suffers from chronic pneumonia, this pi$$es me off SO bad. Jordan tells me all the time about kids that go to the nurse at 9:05am with a fever etc. Um, I am pretty sure if your kid has a 103 fever at 9:05, they had it at 8:45am when you put them on the bus, you jerk!

YEP!! as a teacher, i deal with this a LOT! so many kids come to school sick. a common cold is fine, but when the kid has a flu or a fever, it's so not fair to the other students and teachers not to mention the poor kid. i understand people have to work, but people really need to have a plan B for child care when their child is really sick. this is part of the reason the flu and other things get so out of control.

So crazy!!!! DS had 102 today I think it is just a reaction to the H1N1 shot but either way I know he doesn't have actual swine flu but he is still not going to school tomorrow-why should some other kid bring this home to a family or sibling or worse yet a pregnant mommy like myself. Plus why should my child suffer through a day of school and risk getting ten times worse when just a day or two of rest could cure him! Some people are so thoughtless! That is why we have epidemics-careless gross people! Hope everyone stays healthy-good luck ladies!

As a teacher, unfortunately, I have kids come in sick ALL The time. A lot of times, the parents don't pick them up. The nurse just sends them back to class. It frustrates me a lot because I have a class of students with special needs and they have poor hygiene skills and do not know how to blow their nose/wipe their nose/wash their hands properly. I am trying to teach them this, but at the same time I am trying to prevent getting sick. Its VERY frustrating!!!!

Do I know you? I think we teach in the same school! Are you a BOCES employee? It is so frustrating to have a sick student return to class but it happens ALL the time.

ugh- this sounds like a friend of mine- she sends her kids to school sick ALL the time- except she's a SAHM- she just doesn't want to "deal".. nice, right?

These people are such morons! Their stupidity will infect so many more people b/c they can't be bothered with keeping a sick child home.
I would have said something to them in the hopes that it would make them think twice before doing something so stupid.

As soon as my ped. saw me he brought me into his office away from the other kids and and checked his ear in there before the other people in the waiting room. Before me there was a couple in their with their infant. He definetely tries to keep everyone seperated.

To be honest, the kid looked perfectly fine. He wasn't coughing or sneezing. He got a fever and the mother brought him in a few hours later so i guess she caught it early. he was running around like nothing was wrong.
I asked my ped. if I should be concerned and he said no. The kid didnt cough or sneeze on DS and I didnt let DS touch anything in the office. As soon as we left I wiped his hands with anti-bacterial wipes and than came home and gave him a bath...it's my OCD
