Adding a bathroom to upstairs cape

After getting estimates for doing a half dormer on our cape house, we decided to scrap those plans and just add a bathroom (for a number of different reasons.. cost, and the fact that we might not be in the house for more than 5 years).

Has anyone done this, and/or can you recommend a contractor that can do this? I've met with a lot of the bigger name companies but feel like since this is much smaller scale, I'd like to get some estimates from some non-big name contractors but am having a hard time finding some good ones.

TIA!!!

Re: Adding a bathroom to upstairs cape

Cost depends on a lot of variables that would have an impact. Will it fit into existing space or do you have to do a small dormer to increase headroom in the bathroom area? Is there any plumbing up there already or do you have to run plumbing lines? Do you want a pre-fab stand up shower only, a shower/tub combo, or both separate? What size room, vanity style, etc. Just as an example, Home Depot has a small unit that includes a tiny vanity/sink, faucets and towel bars for under $150 but it's more like the type of thing you'd put in a small half-bath if you're on a tight budget. You can also get custom cabinets, granite counter tops, high-end Kohler sink and Delta faucets and spend $4000 or more for a large 84" vanity. So the range of potential cost is huge - you really need to meet with a contractor to discuss what you want to get an accurate price.
