If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all

yes, i know i'm "in for it"

yes, i know "it'll be hard"

yes, i know "i'm crazy"

yes, i know "i'll never sleep"

But what i also know is that i'm getting more negative responses than positive to having 2 under 2, and it's really upsetting me. i've only told my closest friends and family, and have about an 85% negativity rate right now. not that they think it's a bad thing (i could care less if they did), but a "congratulations--that's great!" would be nice.Chat Icon Chat Icon

this is a baby--MY baby and although it's a surprise baby, it could never be a bad thing. it's really starting to hurtChat Icon Chat Icon

Easier said than done but don't take it to heart.

As you said a congratulations would be refreshing. I am sorry that people are being so negative.

Wishing you a wonderful pregnancy and a happy family!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well I can't speak from experience (I only have 1) but my SIL could. She would say some things are hard but some things are much easier. Such as they are able to bond and play together better, you won't be finishing a stage just to start it again (like diapers or bottles) it would be like just one longer stage, and you can save their homeworks for the next year Chat Icon

Re: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all

I went through the same thing with my family. DH's family was very excited when we told them I was pregnant but when my family found out, it went very badly. My aunt (my mother basically) made me cry in the middle of the grocery store saying how disappointed she was and that I wouldn't be able to handle a child. I am 25 years old and married for 2 years, we are ready for children. She came around after a while but my family didn't take it well. Even my grandparents weren't happy about the pregnancy. It might just take some time. This is YOUR pregnancy, not anyone else's. YOUR happy time and YOUR baby, just remember that!
I hope things look up for you soon!!

you have been BLESSED with a surprise baby!!!!!!

sure, it's not going to be easy to have 2 under 2 (i'm right there with ya!), BUT i truly believe that we aren't given anything we can't handle.

take the comments with a grain of salt. it's not about you, it's about THEM. please don't let rude comments interfere with your joy.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!!!
You can tell them, well yes its going to be hard but then do you know how much easier im going to have it when they're lets say 5&3 - they can play together & do everything together.
my sister and I are only 13 months apart, and my mom said yes it was hard but so worth it - the older we got the easier it was - we occupied each other instead of bugging my mom with every single thing Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all

I know exactly how you feel. I am due in early June and my kids will be 15 months apart. Did I plan it that way? Um not exactly but we are very excited especially since we had to IVF to have our first. Our second was a total natural surprise.

People will always have an opinion, and many times it won't be nice. Try to ignore it. And good luck to you!! Chat Icon

Surprises are the best! CongratulationsChat Icon Chat Icon

My best friend had Irish twins and she did amazing - it was a wonderful experience for her - and if she had to do it all over again she would.

you need to have a great come back for the negative responses....

family or not - put these people back in their spot.... and be proud of the fact that you were blessed with another - and remember God only gives us what we can handle....

I'm learning very quickly that people do and say the dumbest things around/to pregnant women and their husbands.

It really stinks that it is coming from your family & friends.

Has everyone forgotten that babies are blessings and true miracles?

thanks everyoneChat Icon

these people aren't purposely being mean, it seems like it's the first thing that pops into their heads. i wish they thought about what they were saying before they actually said it.

but i found out at work that 2 of my god friends who have babies around my son's age are jealous. that made me feel a little better Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have learned that people really don't think before they talk. I am still TTC and I get

Well, don't you think you should wait a little longer?

Are you crazy? You have time?

Try your best to let it ride off your shoulders.

And if it means anything, Congrats and I am very happy to hear your wonderful news! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
