Is there a non-obnoxious way to suggest on your registry...

that you don't want to be inundated with PINK?!Chat Icon Chat IconChat Icon

I'm just one of those girls who gets a little annoyed with all the pink (no offense to anyone who loves that color). I don't mind SOME. But people tend to go nuts with it. I did register for a sleeper that's pink but that's because it has Snoopy, but most of what I registered for (when it comes to towels, whatnot) is all neutral.

So, any suggestions?

Am I being ridiculous?Chat Icon I'm pretty much getting the word out to friends and close family...so maybe I should just let it go by word of mouth?

Anyone else feel this way or am I alone here?Chat Icon

you know i feel the same way - and we prevented that by NOT telling people until the actual day OF the shower....

Let me ponder how NOT to be inundated!!!

there is a spot on registery for comments.. and just put in a nice way you prefer other colors than pink.

But to be honest pretty much everythign for a girl is pink..

i actually purposely selected a lot of green and blue things (that are gender neutral except for the color) that i thought were cute, hoping that would help get the point across... also word of mouth i'm relying on a LOT.

It is extremely hard to find things that are not pink for a girl. I went nuts trying to find more nuetral things and now that she is here....I kinda wish I had a **few** more girly things to put her in.

I think one thing you could do would be to put a note requesting gift reciepts because of the strict return policy.... then maybe you can exchange some of the pink things.

You can feel that way, and you can even pass it on to your mom and your friends.

But honestly, its rude. People are bringing gifts, and yes, they should get what the new mom wants, but a gift is still a gift.

My SIL told people NO PINK for my niece when she was born, guess what, 3.5 years later all the kid wears is pink, so you can't fight it honestly, like Jenn said, there isn't alot of not pink out there.

Re: Is there a non-obnoxious way to suggest on your registry...

It's so funny - this was one of my reasons for not finding out the gender - I didn't want to be inundated with all pink or all blue espeically on bigger items that can be used for the next baby. However, on the registries I think one of them asked for the color scheme. I put sage and brown.

When DD was born, I still got tons of pink! In fact I got way more clothing after she was born than before and from people I hardly know or don't know (MIL's friends, SIL's family, etc.). Some of it I liked b/c I do like pink/brown, most of it reminded me of cotton candy, some things are still in her closet unused and I've passed along to other new mom's b/c the size didn't correlate with the climate at the time she fit in the item. You really get all sorts of stuff. Even stuff that is clearly for toddlers.

What about if your shower invites are in a more neutral color or just one you like (i.e. purple is beautiful on little girls and admittedly my preference). I wonder if that may send the message.

Re: Is there a non-obnoxious way to suggest on your registry...

A friend of mine had a cute little saying that did not seem obnoxious at all. It said something like, "we prefer lavender and shades of purple instead of a sea of pink..." then she said something about preferring plain cotton clothes over frilly ruffles. I don't remember how she worded it but it may have even rhymed. She just said what she "prefers." It never even crossed my mind that it could seem offensive and I am usually to first to take offense to people's registry comments. I have been taken aback by things like "gift cards preferred," even when the reason was that the shower was not close to the person's home.

Oh I care WAY too much about what people think and do not want to come off rude...I don't think I was really seriously considering doing that. But I met someone last night who felt the same way and she put it on her registry and she said "I don't care, I'm a jerk anyway"Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is there a non-obnoxious way to suggest on your registry...

I know what you mean...I still have time until I find out but if I am having a girl the room is going to be light green so I will be putting in the comment section when I know that we prefer not a lot of pink.

You can maybe tell your mom or mother in-law and have them spread the word. I do think that you should use the comment section to maybe nicely say what you want.

hmm, that is a tough one! i think when guests know the sex, they tend to over do it on the gender items..just ask that they include a gift receipt in the notes area on your registry. i did this for babies r us..

not everyone included a gift receipt but everyone more or less stuck to the registry...

good luck!! and congrats on teamChat Icon

I think maybe if you register for some items that reflect your color choices- lavendars, greens, yellows, etc, people will get the idea that you are not into the whole pink thing and will follow your lead and not go crazy with the pink . . . .
