15 months and still eats jarred baby food

DS is a picky eater and will still eat stage 3 baby food. He eats a couple of table food: eggs, cheese, cheerios, snacks, etc but when it comes time for a meal, he'll just shake his head and will refuse to eat. How can I stop making him eat baby food?

Re: 15 months and still eats jarred baby food

My son is a picky eater and we gave him stage 3 foods till he was about 20 months BUT only at night alongside other solid food. I wanted to know he was getting veggies and if he wasn't going to eat real ones, the baby food was ok with me. I mean its the same thing, just pureed really well!

If you really want to stop giving it to him, there are a few options I think. One is to supplement his diet with a good vitamin so you know he's getting them. Another thing we did was to start buying motts applesauce and offering those instead of the baby food and he loved it...

And right now I am into sneaking purees into solid food..my mom got me deceptively delicious cookbook for christmas and there are some good ideas in there! Like if your son likes pancakes you can get 1/2 cup puree in the batter and he'd never know. Or you mentioned eggs...there is a section for sneaking in purees into scrambled eggs. That could work!!

Good luck, I know it's frustrating to have a picky eater!!

We have the same issue! DD only has 2 teeth and I think that is part of the issue.

She will only eat stage 2 and very few stage 3. Sometimes she will eat pieces of turkey and she used to eat pasta. Seldomly can I get her to eat cheerios.

However, she will eat rice cakes and crackers. I don't know what is up with her. The Ped really wants her off the jarred food by 18 months, but I don't see that happening.

Dr. told me to cut her bottles down and she will eat because she will be hungry. I am not sure how I feel about that though.

I am open to other ideas! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS is almost 16 months and sometimes I still resort to giving him jarred food especially because its the only way he would get any veggies into his body.

I never really had this issue, but I just stopped giving DS jarred baby food cold turkey and started giving him table food.

I firmly believe that they will eat when they are hungry. Some days my DS eats huge meals, some days, not so much. We just run with it.Chat Icon

DD ate jarred fruits, veggies and gerber oatmeal til she was 18 mo. Ped said it was fine as long as she was eating. When she turned a yr. she became very picky so as long as she was getting some nutrition I didn't care if she ate it until she was 2. I then decided to completely stop it.

My DD still eats some baby food fruits. She is not a big eater so for a little extra nutrition I can get one of those in. She is almost 27 months old.

What if you just mash it up - take the veggies and cook them really well, add iin some alphabet pasta and mash it up. Or, try stuff like sweet potatos and just mash it up - or cook meatballs in broth and mash up. Would that work?

I have the same problem. 15 months and will mostly eat stage 2 DHA veggies. He eats nuggets, pasta, hot dog and corn and string beans. Nothing else really. I cut down his bottles and found that does work alittle.

I have tried that! But she is smart, if she doesn't see the jar, she won't eat! I think today I am going to make some more food and put it in the jar...I guess I will have to trick her!
