Help!!! ? for moms of boys (re: "down there")

OMG i noticed at 4pm today that DS's peepee has kind of a red splotchy rash at the very tip. He is uncircumcised, so I know its not an issue with that. I called the ped and their only advice was that if its not bothering him to leave it alone (it's not... I touched it, cleaned it,etc and no reaction at all.)
But its still there and there seems to be a lightly blood-tinged discharge???? I just noticed that on his diaper at the last change... He's still not having discomfort, but what the hell is this??? Any NB mommies or BTDTs have any idea?? I'm freaking out a little until I can call the ped again tomorrow Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My DS had something similar, they wound up putting him on nystatin (spelling). My DS is also uncircumcised, he was around 6.5 months when it occurred (and it never bothered him). HTH

Sometimes my DS gets a rash like that, it is just a diaper rash.

You don't retract his foreskin, right? If you do, it can cause infections, even a little bit of pulling it back can cause little tears.

was it swollen?

I thought my DS had a diaper rash on his wiener area - but he didn't have it in the butt area.

It got worse and spread into his little leg folds. He was definitely red and swollen, but just in the front.

Turns out it was a yeast infection that was treated with prescription nystatin.

My little guy is circumcised, but seems to have extra sensitive skin (like his momma). I switched to cloth diapers (Love them!). He never gets diaper rash, but is still irritated sometimes in the front.

OOoooh wow, it doesn't appear to be swollen, but honestly it came on so quickly that I suspect by tomorrow it might be?? That totally settles it, I'm going to the ped tomorrow, I bet we DO have a fungus amongus.

this is how I felt when I saw a bit of blood in DS's poo one day.... turned out it was nothing major.

try not to worry too much... many of these things seem super-concerning to new parents, but to the peds, it's either 'normal' or something very minor.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Thanks Loafmama!!! WOW blood in poop would FREAK me out!!!
BUt the doc was so blase about this I thought hmmm, perhaps it really IS nothing!! As long as he's not in pain I'll head to the ped tomorrow, and see if he needs the nystatin. I was fine until DH saw it, as you can imagine, he's VERY concerned about the weiner.... BOYS. Chat Icon
