I'm a terrible mom
DS (7 mths) fell off his changing pad on his dresser and on to the floor. I KNOW you are not supposed to do it and I am always so careful. I don't know what I was thinking - I was in such a rush this am - I turned for a second and then I heard the thud. He took so long to console and he got a cut on his nose (don't know from what) that looks like a deep finger nail cut. I feel horrible. He just looked at him like I betrayed him. When I dropped him off at daycare this morning, he still was not smiling.  I called the daycare and they said he was fine and acting like his usual happy go lucky self. I just feel so bad......

You're not a terrible mom. But, I do know how you feel. DD fell off her changing table twice . It took a couple of minutes to get her to calm down but I think she was just scared. Kids forget very quickly. I'm sure when you pick him up from daycare later he will give you a great big smile.

Me too! If you think you are a terrible mom.... then about 90% of us are terrible moms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have all had instances like this honey!!!

I know you feel like a terrible mom, but really, you're just like the rest of us. We all make little mistakes and learn from them. Your DS will be fine, please don't beat yourself up over this.

Read my thread the other night about DS falling off the bed......... I felt the exact same way you do...... TRUST ME!!! IT has happened to more of us than not!!!

I am sure that for him he was more upset over the scare of it. Never thought twice about your involvement but sensed how scared you were.

I am so sorry you had that scare You are NOT a terrible Mom - it happens.
Thankfully he is happy playing at daycare, it probably shook you up so much more than it did him.
I had this happen with my niece 14 years ago while I was babysitting. She rolled off a large ottoman I had her sitting on. I still think back to the "thud" I heard, her crying and the terror I felt. I still to this day look at her and wonder how on earth that didn't do any permanent damage.

you're not a terrible mom.... accidents are a fact of life... we all have our moments.... my little one has only been home several days and I know I've done a few risky things out of exhaustion and frenzy including exactly that... turning my back while he's on the changing table. your post is a little nudge to me to be more vigilent....
if you purposefully dropped him on the floor in anger, THEN you'd be a bad mom...
but in your case, you're just human and made a mistake

Same here. DD has fallen off a bed and cut her face on a friend's glass coffee table and both happened when I was RIGHT THERE. These things happen sometimes. It's awful, but they are tough little people. It will be ok.

I left DD on my bed once when I just ran to the other room and grabbed something and I heard the same thud you did. I felt awful. DD doesn't even remember it now, I'm sure.
You're not a bad mommy!!!!! It happens!

The samething happen to my son at the very same age-it was really scary and I felt like the worst mother in the world, we rushed him to the hospital everything turned out ok and he didn't even hold it aganist me

Thanks you ladies for making me realize that I am not alone. DS was his same usual self tonight - other than the cut on his nose nad lip. They started to look like they are healing. All I can say is - lesson learned. I am going to be even more careful with him.

I feel your pain! I felt sooo guilty when my DD fell off of our very high King sized bed. There were no long lasting effects from it though.
We all have moments like that. Forgive yourself!!

Mine rolled out of my bed once. ( a few weeks ago). was not expecting that. Now I am ultra paranoid. My son rolled down the stairs when he was under 1. he survived without a bump or scratch. Its really heartbreaking and stressful though
