No internals for planned C/S??

I went to my appointment yesterday expecting an internal (I am 36+ weeks), but the nurse said "natural or C/S?" I told her C/S and she said, "ok, no need to get undressed"

So, no internals if I am a planned C/S? Anything can still happen though - right? What are internals for?

I never had an internal for my planned c-section.

I had an internal with my planned c-section and Im having another planned c-section and my doctor told me my plan for appt and I will be having an internal towards the end because like you said anything can happen so thats strange they arent giving you one..

no internal for my c/s either

said it checks the position of the head ..
since we KNOW the head isnt down there, there's no need for it

Usually they feel the head with a finger

*shrug*

dialation means nothing to us with c/s if there's no need to watch the dialation (edit .. i said contractions before.. duh of course we can still get contractions)

Only three things I am supposed to watch for

Contractions 3-5 an hour
Bleeding like AF or more
water breaking

That's it.

Hmmmm, I'd still think they'd want to know if anything were happening as that might bump up the date right? I hope I get one Wed. just to know what's going on.

Internals really don't tell anything. You can be 2cm for 4 weeks or you can be finger-tip dialated and go into labor that night. Like the other poster wrote all that matters is if you have signs of true labor.

I did not have any internals either for my planned c-section.

I had them starting at 35 weeks even though I had a planned c/s. I guess every doc is different.

I am having a planned c-section and my only internal will be this Tuesday.

internals really serve no purpose, they are not an indication of when you will go into labor....vaginal or c-section, I think they are unnecessary

i didn't have any internals past week 36 (i think) and i had a planned c-section.. doc said he didn't want to chance disturbing anything down there..

i did go to the hospital week 38 because i was having contractions and they did one there.. trust.. you're not missing out on anything.. quite uncomfortable..

Yep! i had a weekly sono from week 34.. to check if baby had turned (she was breech) and to check my amniotic fluid levels..

You should still have one internal exam around 36 weeks to have Group B strep cultures done. If you start to go into labor before the c-section you would still get antibiotics. Repeated pelvic exams are not necessary.
