To Swadle or Not to Swadle....

My son is 4 months old now and up until tonight has slept swaddled up every night. He absolutely loves it! Sleeps like a log as soon as you wrap him up. He wears the heavy duty one that Velcro’s across the top. He is really stretching the limits of the one that we got him in. This thing is screaming! I know at some point we''re going to have to get him to sleep without it. I don''t know why I choose tonight to make the switch but I did. He''s still wearing the swaddle but its just around his chest underneath his arms. Im watching him through the video monitor and he hands are constantly up in his face. Looks like he''s punching himself out. He''s not waking up but Im afraid in the morning its going to look like he went 12 rounds in a boxing ring.

What do you think? Should I leave him free or swaddle him back up? Is there a different way Im not thinking about to ween them off of being swaddled. I know I probably have sometime but my fear is that he manages to roll over and does not have his hands out to prop himself up a bit. We are using those triangle things but you never know.

I 'weaned' from the swaddle when he started breaking out of the miracle blanket at 5 months I believe---I really had no choice at that point. We started with one arm out first, then both---mine was the same way hitting himself in the face. It was a tough couple of days, but you get thru it!

I managed to stretch the swaddle-me thing until DD was 7 months old. I just kept putting her in it, eventually she managed to break free herself and ended up weaning herself from it because she was getting out.
