I plan on moving down south as soon as my lease is up....
I love New York but its sooo expensive to live... Dh's salary transfers with him...wherever we go... so to live here making x amount of money and just making it, when that same amount of money makes us quite wealthy somewhere else, just dosent make any sense...

All I know is that I could own a pretty nice house back home in TN vs. what we paid for our 750 sq. ft. co-op in NY, but its in TN. DH wouldn't make as much $$$ and I wouldn't be able to pursue my dream of being on B'way there.

We are pretty much tied to the Metro area based on DH's job. He works for Deloitte but his group is based primarily here. I don't think I would leave even if we had the choice. I love NY.

Yes. DH and I are moving south. We are going to build a house for a quarter of the price to buy one here. I have to stay here until December but DH may be moving as early as this March because he is up for a really good job.

Down south is picking up too, in some places just as expensive as here. I went to an open house in florida 2 weeks ago and the price was for a 3 bedroom, EIK, DR, LR, 1 car garage 2 baths - 1 was a shower stall for 659,000!!!!!!!  and we are only talking about new port richey, not somewhere like west palm or naples, boca where I can see those prices and more!

I would consider the Raleigh area of NC b/c I've lived there before and it was nice. And my brother and his family, as well as my best friend and hers live there too. But, DH has a job he really likes, my dad and his family are here so, we'll probably stay put for a while.

We r looking into moving back upstate ...my father BUILT a brand new gorgeous HUGE house for HAlf of what our house here is worth, its crazy, im tired of just scraping by ...even utilities, gas , grocieries are cheaper

We dont know what we are going to do yet - but we cannot afford to stay here. Originally the plan was to go to FL but we are having a hard time leaving our families.
I would like to move back to Rochester but we would be taking a huge paycut. I know the cost of living is different there but it would just be too weird.

I'm going thorugh my highs & lows. I'm incredibly sad to know that I won't be close to my parents anymore. But I'm happy that Marissa will be in a great school & have a house she can call her own. It's a tough call for me but reality is that I have to choose what it best for Marissa, and right now NY is not it. I know that we will all suffer, but it will get easier as time goes by. I can visit and always be a phone call away.

I have lived in other areas, and like Shelley said, the only other places I would consider wouldn't be much cheaper than here.
I love all of the things that the NY metro area offers and my family is here, I don't think I would move away again at this point in my life. I would consider retiring to a less expensive place, though.

We just moved to Monroe, NY. DH has only a 1 hour commute to NYC, and we purchased a lakefront home for a fraction of what it would cost on LI (and that is factoring in all the renovations we did). I work from home, so the commute was a non-issue for me.
