Backyard Parties Vent

If I get one more invite to a backyard birthday or christiening. I hate them. Why do people think we should be subjected to that heat. I have kids. Never would I expect people to come in the heat. I've alway had things at restaurants and halls.

Simple solution... don't go.
Not everyone has the money to lay out for a restaraunt or catering hall.

Me too. And some people actually prefer to not be cooped up in a restaurant for every party they attend.

I'm just the opposite. I'm not a fan of restaurant parties, ESPECIALLY for kids. I find them to be SO impersonal and cold.

I'm MUCH rather invite my friends and family to my home where they can dress comfortably and be relaxed.

No offense, but are you a regular poster using a fake name? You have all of 5 posts with two of them being "vents" about very specific things. Not to mention, you've been around since March of 07.

And it's hard to predict.
It could be very nice out- and then everyone woud say- I don't want to be "cooped up" in a restaurant on a beautiful summer's day.

never had a restaurant or catering hall party once growing up. my parents just a)didn't see the sense in spending the money and b)preferred having a barbecue and casual atmosphere.

i love backyard parties--you can walk around and mingle a lot of times easier than in a restaurant. kids can run around and have fun....and no need to wait for some waiter to bring you food & drink....you get it yourself.

no time limits on backyard parties either---don't have to worry about being there from 12 pm - 4 pm sharp!

I don't get why everything has to be a big party to invite everyone. This one's 'moving up' ceremony, that one's 11th birthday, the other one's confirmation... I don't remember my Mom having all sorts of parties for my sister and I growing up.

It’s easy to say ‘just don’t go’ but people expect you to go. I admit I am anti social Chat Icon

I would prefer a backyard to a restaurant, though.

DH and I did a lot to spruce up our yard long before DS was here. We have been told that our furniture is really comfortalbe and people feel like they are on vacation out there. Back yard parties can be nice because you aren't rushe out at a certain time.

I have really happy summertime memories of barbecues at my parents' house and other people's house.

I love to enterain out back and by dinnertime it usually cools down Chat Icon

People cannot predict nor control the weather.

If you don't want to go, don't go.

I wouldn't have a party for kids in a restaurant.

The party is for the kids...kids want to run and play. If your inconvienced, oh well.

Just say no to the invite.

i totally agree with you and i think most parties especially children's parties booked 8 months in advance so you can get the date are way out of control

I hear where you're coming from, Kara. Both Dh and I come from large party throwing families and while it is fun, b/c they like to party sometimes it's a burden b/c we have no time to do things with our friends. Or for that matter time to do anything around the house.

And it's true, there is definitely an expectation of being required to attend.

But in the long run, I'd rather a busy social calendar than one where we're sitting home scratching our azzes looking for something to do.

I agree. We have a christening to go to this month at a hall and I think it's so silly. The christening will cost almost as much as my wedding. I love backyard parties, not just because they're cheaper (and more within my budget), but because the atmosphere is more comfortable and it's nice to enjoy the summer while it's here.

I completely agree...my family is very casual. We just like to hang out. And with the kids it is just better to let them run around.

Re: Backyard Parties Vent

i also am a fan of backyard parties. i have 2 little ones and bringing them to a restaurant would be H3LL. It is easier to let them run around, go in the pool etc in someone's backyard.
