How long trying?

How long was everyone trying until a lightbulb went off that told you to move on to an RE? I'm just getting a little concerned.Chat Icon

Re: How long trying?

age has a lot to do with it...we were trying for almost a year before we were referred to a RE...I think the older you are they will send you to one after 6 months.

Re: How long trying?

3 months for us, but we found out that I have PCOS in that 3rd month, so we went straight to the RE.

Re: How long trying?

I didn't see an RE until a year after I went off BCP. I should have seen one sooner.

Re: How long trying?

We went at 11 months. However, we knew from the start that we would have fertility issues.

Re: How long trying?

We started in March but I wasn't very diligent until May finally in November I said "something's not right" so I went to see a specialist. I am so glad I did!

Re: How long trying?

I am 26 and DH is 36. I went off the pill in March, started officially trying in July. Unfortunately, my cycles never regulated. I'm all over the place, usually 50-60 days. Last month I had a 32 day cycle, but we are back to another long cycle this time around. I have been temping since October.

Thanks to a special FM, I spent all weekend thinking (thank you)Chat Icon

Re: How long trying?

Well our age is a factor, but we knew almost immediately it was going to be challenging.

Re: How long trying?

Leslie, you and i went off the pill at the same time and i started actively trying the same month as you..we didnt prevent for a month or two in there so i counted those bc we BD'd alot!!

I decided to go because like you, my periods were getting longer and i had a few questions for the doc about DH as his morphology was a little low.

Well, turns out i was the major prob!! DH loved that, no actually he didnt because i was sooo upset and ended up finding out i have endo. I lost a tube and now am working with one but here is my advice. I am a more extreme case i would say! I am in my 20's too and no one really took me seriously right away bc of my age. But, then decided to see my RE now and he was nice and honest and when i had another marathon cycle on the way he did a sono on me and then bloodwork and ended up helping me with O earlier. Now i am doing the clomid thing again but had to halt due to laproscopic surgery for my endo and tube.

I would say, go in because of the cycle issues. It is not normal to have them go that long after stopping the pill last March, i sold birth control for awhile-dont freak out either bc usually it is a treatable issue and you can end up pregnant bam! For me, i thought it was PCOS but think it is a combo of the endo with mine. Not really sure bc my hormones are all normal but the endo was a shock. I could recommend to you some good doctors-FM me if you have any questions. I have worked in medical sales for a while and have gotten alot of good feedback on the good docs to see!
I hope I helped?!

Re: How long trying?

We tried for one year before going to an RE.. I did though talk to my gyno about three months before that to see what she could do, she put me on clomid and ran some tests.

Best of luck

About ONe year for me. But, after my miscarriage, we couldn't try for two cycles bc of the methotrexate....so it was about 10 months. Going on 4 years this Feb.

Good Luck to you! Chat Icon

18 months. I actually wanted to go sooner (at 12 months) since I was 33 years old.

Re: How long trying?

We tried for about 4 months. I am 36, DH is 37. I went to an RE to have tests run just to see if I had any issues. Good thing that I did, because my blood tests showed poor egg quallity and low reserve -- DH has low sperm count.
