he works in IT...he is contacting a headhunter as we speak....and I don't think he will be getting severance since the company is going bankrupt...
I can't believe this...we moved down the NC with his NY salary and it was mint...now I don't know what he will make...all the big bucks are in Charlotte or Raliegh and they are an hour away from our house
I agree with the poster above. it will work out. Also, an hr commute is not the end of the world. Lots of us do it.
If it's a good job and a good oppy, it will be worth it.
Try not to think the worst. Even if a firm goes bankrupt, they may still offer severance and he will get unemployment.
Hang in there.

yeah i told him i don't care how long he has to drive...just work, lol!
he is just used to working out of the house, so he is spoiled!
I sent him a bunch of jobs off the internet and he has a friend in Raliegh that said his company is hiring...so I'm hoping everything will be ok!

I know it's hard. He will find a job.
You guys seem like motivated people, who have been successful in the past. You have moved to a new state and city, and have found good jobs. Just keep that in mind. He can do it again.

yes...well as of yesterday their stock is no longer being traded, so the company is not making any money

They no longer are trading because they could not pay their dividends and people were selling the stock like mad. It was to protect the stock from being worthless. It's really bad for that company they said because they are getting hit with both less homebuyers these days and also stricter mortgage requirements. it also said that because they are only residential that they are not diverse enough to stay in business. I think it sucks that they go from the number 8 company on Long Island to one that is in a downward spiral.

yes it does suck! They also said there is a class action lawsuit being filed, b/c apparently the company has known this was going to happen for a while

looks like they laid off alot of people in the past few weeks- They just took over that office in Melville a year ago right? my DH used to work in that office when it was Global Home Loans- which went under last summer

yeah they just laid off like 400 people, but that wasn't anyone is his area...but now its the whole company...they have been in Melville a while ....DH has worked there for 4 years and always in that melville office

Mini Update***
So DH just head that there will be a
press release in 24 hrs about the company...right now they are trying to strike a deal with a hedge fund to borrow a ton of money so they can operate again....but he said that is best case scenario and if that does happen they will probably lay more people off the save money.

Hang in there - it sounds like there are a lot of different directions your DH can go in terms of looking for another IT job - as others are saying - one hour commute is no biggie! Is there something you can do until school starts to bring in a little more $$?

I am...I've been in NY all summer working for a family I worked for before we moved...thank god for that...but its only for another 9 days, then we drive back to NC

the mortgage industry is in trouble right now- it's really in his best interest to get out of it asap
my DH is a mortgage banker and this has been a very hard year- in a few weeks he will start working at his 4 or 5th company this year- there aren't many good ones left
