Re: homeowners

For our current place, we looked at three other places - 1 condo and 2 houses. Then this place (a condo) came on the market f.s.b.o and we were the first ones offered it (small town).

Currently, we are looking again and if I had to judge how many houses we have physically stepped into in our town (2 square miles) it would be about 20 so far in 8 months. I have looked at far more online and drivebys. We have offered on 3 houses so far, 2 have been accepted and we have walked away from 2.

If this is the house you want, then go for it but be prepared for things to go wrong and for the "game" --- don't get emotionally tied to it until the day you get the key.

Re: homeowners

We looked at less than a dozen houses.

We looked online for over a year, but didn't really go to a house until we were really ready. When we were - it took less than a month and we saw less than a dozen homes. We walked in and knew it was the one.

Re: homeowners

4......when we walked into our house we just knew it was ours. Red bandana bathroom, 70's formica, 70's tile, morning pee yellow rooms and all that we were home. We put a lot of work into our house, but I can't imagine ever leaving. It had a basement, fenced in yard, larger lot, and 3 bed 2 baths just like we wanted. The house is well made and has a pretty low maint. yard.

Re: homeowners

we physically looked at 3...and that's because I wasn't serious about buying a house yet...we did play on MLS a lot (and DH is a realtor)

Then this house dropped in our lap, FSBO and in less than two months we were moved inChat Icon
I love that we have a huge lot with lots of potential and I also love that it is small and not overwhelming for an overworked mommy...

I knew when we were driving down the block at night for the first time...I just got "that feeling" and whatever issues that will come up, and I am just waiting for them, I just know this house chose us!

Re: homeowners

My hubby grew up in Astoria. I moved to Queens when I was 14 and lived in Astoria, JH and Woodside till I was 27. We now live in Garden City South in Nassau county. Its the seond town (or so) over the border from Queens. We still go Queens for the Neptune Diner and I still get my haircut on Steinway Street!!!
Going to Astoria Park on Friday for the fireworks!
Believe it or not - I think LI is less expensive when it comes to buying a house. (Taxes are another story)

Re: homeowners

Wish you luck with everything ( house, baby, etc!). What a wonderful time in life. If you want/neeed to explore LI but still be close to Queens (it takes me less than 1/2 to get to Steinway), I am selling my house. I can give you the information.

Re: homeowners

We looked at about 10, bid on 2, bought the last one we bid on. We started looking in November 2003 around Thanksgiving and were in contract by Christmas.
