s/o to note on car..

a man that lives across the street from me owns a car and has a driveway. He never puts his car in the driveway but in front of his house. Fine. His daughter comes over maybe 2-3 a week and ALWAYS park her car directly across of my driveway. Never in his driveway. So it makes it a pain to get out of my driveway. Mind you there is plenty spots on the street since the whole block parks in their driveways..why park directly across so it's hard to get out. My DH is always complaining about this. would this bother you too? It's just a pain to get out..that's all.

If I'm reading this right you are saying she is parking in front of your driveway? Um yes that would bother me. I would tell her to move it. I'm pretty sure you can have a car towed for blocking your driveway.

eta: never mind I think I understand. She's parking across the st from your driveway, right? I can see how it's annoying, but I don't think I would tell someone to not park across the street from my house/driveway.

It would if it BLOCKED my driveway. I would ask that when he has vistors over to please ask them to not block my driveway. If it continued, I'd call a towing company.

If they are parking in front of the house but not blocking the driveway, no that wouldn't bother me. But, if the driveway is blocked then yes.

not in front of my driveway..but on the other side. I guess I am not explaining it correctly. Maybe it's not a big deal but it bugs my DH to no end.

Yes I would be bothered. My old neighbors used to do this all the time and they had a driveway big enough for 4 cars yet they continuously parked in front of our house and across from our driveway. However, there is nothing more you can do it about it besides grumble and walk away, unfortunately.

I can see how it would be annoying but I wouldn't say anything about it because technically they're not doing anything wrong. However, if you have a good relationship with your neighbor, maybe you could just ask her to park her car just a little further down because it makes it difficult for you to get out of your driveway.

Re: s/o to note on car..

again, super annoying. BUT they are not doing anything wrong.

It's like when you are on the train and there are 100 empty seats and someone decides to sit RIGHT next to you and squish you in.

Very annoying? Yes? are they in their rights to do so? absolutely.

Yes that is annoying. Can you say something to them, nicely? Just mention how it's awkward getting in/out of the driveway and can she park a little further away?

So, is this household just boycotting the use of their OWN driveway all-together?? Does ANYONE in that family utilize their driveway? LOL I can just picture this man black-topping his driveway to perfection and then telling everyone in his house NOT to go on the driveway and ruin the crisp, beautiful new blacktop Chat Icon

Re: s/o to note on car..

my mom had this problem with her neighbor! they have a narrow street too so there were several times where she started to back out of her driveway and had to get out of her car and get their neighbor to move their truck so she could get out. They eventually got the hint and stopped parking directly across from the driveway.

Where I live, street parking is not very common so it might bug me, especially if they had their own place to park and were just choosing not to.

If it was an area where street parking was common, I'd probably let it go because I'd know that going into buying the house there might be cars parking along the street/in front of my house.

Yes, it's annoying!
My mom's neighbor does this on the weekends. The street is narrow to begin with & he parks right across from her driveway. I get pissed off everytime I have to leave her house but we wouldn't make a big deal of it. We don't really have a right to say anything kwim but it's still annoying & inconsiderate.

Re: s/o to note on car..

My old apartment in Brooklyn we had these crazy neighbors. They owned the biggest house on the block, had a huge driveway, with a large parking area and garage in the back. They never used it. They always took up two spots in the street right in front of their house. When they would move one car, they would take the other car and block two spots. Sometimes they would pull up and take 3 spots in front of their house. When it was street cleaning day, the woman who lived there would take her car and sit in front of her house, when the cleaner would come through she would move the car and then put it right back. When they would go on vacation they rented a car to hold the spot in front of their house, same when one of the cars were in the shop, and when they did this they would take the parking tickets for street cleaning rather then just park their cars in their driveway. They also had camera's set up to watch the cars my guess is because people hated them and they knew it. Even when we had the horrible winter a couple of years back they wouldn't put their cars in their driveway, and my old block was almost all elderly people, and me with an infant who they saw all the time lugging groceries with a baby.

After dealing with those nut jobs, there are few parking situations that drive me insane Chat Icon

s/o to note on car..

This actually reminds me of my dad's neighborhood in Queens. It's all residential with co-op buildings and single family homes with massive driveways (like 4 cars at least could fit). No one parks in their driveway and they all park in the spots in front of their house so no one can park there. And if it's a spot that can fit more than one car, they park in the middle of it so no one can fit in front or behind. The parking in that neighborhood is the absolute worst! It really grinds my gears when I see all of these empty driveways but the streets are packed. It's one of the reasons I moved out!!

I don't think it's rude if you go over there and ask nicely. To be honest, you're not only looking out for yourself but your neighbor's car too because if you back out of your driveway, it's her car you're going to possibly hit.

I agree with this. I would bring it up in a way where you are concerned for their car. I would say something like, "Is there anyway when your daughter comes she can please park a little more to the right/left because it makes it difficult to get out of my driveway and I am scared I might bump her car by accident."

The worst they can say is no.
