Re: PPD question regarding work (time off/pay)

PPD is considered a disability so the note allows you to continue to use your sick days and/or FMLA.

I believe FMLA entitles you to 12 weeks unpaid. There is no way to get paid if you are not working.

Re: PPD question regarding work (time off/pay)

you are entitled to the 12 weeks FMLA (depending on the size of your company..i think it needs to be more than 10 employees?)

if you were unpaid from your job for the 6 weeks, did you still receive Disability from NYS? because at minimum you should be able to get that from NYS. 6 weeks for a normal delivery and i think 8 weeks for c-section?

Your doctor would then have to extend your disablity diagnosing you with PPD.

at my job i was paid my salary for 6 weeks with disability; then i had to use paid/vacation time for the remainder of the 6 weeks if i wanted to get paid for the total 12 weeks.
However, under their salary continuation policy through their disability plan, if i were approved and diagnosed as having PPD i would have still received salary. You should check if your employer has such a policy.

Re: PPD question regarding work (time off/pay)

you would have to get short term disability in order to continue to get paid, but you wont get paid in full. you will get whatever percentage of your salary that your disability covers. for me, its 60%. the amount of time you get depends heavily on your doctor and how much they ask for based on the severity. i think you can take up to 26 weeks on short term disability. but that also depends on if your maternity leave was covered under short term as well.
