Pacifier problem - what would you do?

My 3 month old has recently become obsessed with the pacifier. Up until now there were times when he loved it and times where he couldn't care less. Now it seems like he always has to have it, particularly at night. Since he is still too young to put it back in his mouth himself, he fussed and whines and frantically moves around in his crib until my husband or I put it back into his mouth. The past few nights he's been waking up every 1 to 2 hours and will immediately fall back to sleep when it's back in his mouth. Is this just a phase? And should we be putting it back in every time? He's too young to let him just cry it out right?

Too young to CIO. Declan learned to put the paci in at 3.5 months so he might learn soon. Honestly I think the only thing you can do is put it back in for him until he learns.

Thanks ladies! That's what I figured. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making the problem even worse. Hopefully he'll learn to put it in his own mouth soon. Sometimes he almost does it so we'll see!

Does he like Soothies? If so, you should try a wubbanub -- it's a doll with a pacifier attached. It's a little heavier than a pacifier alone so it stays in better IMO. Sometimes DD would pull it out (now at almost 7 months, she likes to drop kick it lol) but sometimes she'd actually be able to put it back in herself!

Here's a pic of her at 2 months with one:

Re: Pacifier problem - what would you do?

DD had this issue at the beginning as well. It was a PITA!

During the last feed, we would rock her to sleep and give her the pacifier. More times than not, it would fall out before we brought her upstairs to her crib and she would sleep without it.

For the last 2 days, DD has been waking at 4am for her pacifier and then goes back to sleep. It's hard, but it's better than a screaming child at all hours of the night!

DS does this. t took me awhile to figure out that he can fuss and do a few wah wahs and then go back to sleep. After a few weeks he stopped the wah wahs. Now at about 4 a.m. he will actually really cry, so we'll put it in and then he'll sleep until 5:30/6. Half the time he falls asleep at night w/it and half w/o it.

I want the giraffe!!

Wubbanub's are the BEST! The cutest thing is when DS unknowingly puts his arm around his little frog and holds onto it. I have a ton of paci's but only use the Wubbi...it's easy to find and stays in his mouth better.

They have the frog, a duck and a red dog at BRU. Tons of other animals on Amazon.

Re: Pacifier problem - what would you do?

I would let DS fuss a bit until he really strted to cry then give him the pacifier. Sometimes he'd go back to sleep wihtout it, but when he didn't he was really wanting it. After about a week, he's hold on tier to it and held it in longer. It took a few days and then he was holding on to it all night.

DS either had his thumb or pacifier in his mouth at 3m. I don't know why, but I couldn't deal with the thumb in the mouth, so I pushed the pacifier.
