Disney Cruise

So DH and I called Disney Cruise yesterday and booked a cruise for October 2011 and we have 1 week to pay the deposit and solidify the reservations.

DH thinks it's a lot of money for the 4-day cruise to the Bahamas....I think it is not a lot and we should go.

Anyone gone on a Disney cruise? Anything you can tell me so I can change DH's mind would be great.

TIA!

Re: Disney Cruise

Do you mind posting what you're paying? How old are your kids? DH and I LOVE cruising (haven't gone with DD yet but plan to) and you get a lot for your money. Also, if you book through the cruise line make sure to keep checking the pricing, if it goes down they usually upgrade your room. As for disney cruise, we haven't been on that line and probably never will... they don't have a casino! Chat Icon

There are a couple of threads over in the travel section..I would check them out..I have never been...but really want to...but apparently many claim it is the best cruise they have been on..I am guessing you cannot go wrong with a disney product!

Hope you get to go, I am jealousChat Icon

Where did you book through? Generally disney cruises tend to be more money than other lines. Are you booking directly through disney? a TA? and online distributor? Before you make any payments definitely price it out a couple of places. I think AAA might even be offering some discounts BUT don't quote me on that. Also check out disboards.com - there is a whole cruise area and they are pretty good with giving hints on how to save some money - also check out mousesavers.com I would think she would have some hints as well.

Check out Bestpricecruises.com That is who we used for cruises in the past and they tend to have better prices when we compared them. Also check out cruisecompete. But definitely price them out - in the past bestpricecruises had better deals when we considered disney cruises.

Honestly YES it is a lot of money you are paying for the disney experience. I love disney but I do admit their cruises are a lot of money compared to other lines (celebrity, RCCL, NCL, etc). So it depends what you are looking for. They do offer a great experience from what everyone I know who has sailed with them. We plan to sail on them someday but are holding off for now.

We did the disney cruise in 09 with my DS (5YO at the time) and DD (10 YO). It's definately expensive but such a great trip. From the minute you board the ship to your departure it's worth every cent. Yes, there are no casinos but we got to enjoy our adult time playing tv themed games w/ other couples or hanging by the bar while kids enjoyed their kiddie camps.

Thank you ladies for the great advice. I am def going to look into other websites to see if we can get a better deal. We were quoted $3600 total for a 4-day Bahamian cruise.

Another quick question....is October hurricane season in the caribbean?

For a 4-day cruise that seems high, but I don't know what disney offers that makes it worth it. You can do a 7 night cruise on the new RCCL allure or oasis for that price, which I read have amazing kid programs.

And yes, hurricane season is June 1 - November 30 and peak is august - october. They usually re-route the cruise if it's going to be in the path of a storm though.

Yea DH thinks so too that the price is high....I asked if they have discounts to offer and they do not.

Thats good to know that they re-route for a storm. This is also our 1st time on a cruise....we just want to have a good experience.

Costco books Disney Cruises and gives you a costco cash card when you book with them -- its worth a phone call...

My sister goes on Disney cruises all the time, but she is a HUGE Disney nut. DH and I would like to go once but haven't decided if we are going to do specifically a Disney cruise or not. Going to depend $$$ and time of year we can go.

Are you sure it was quoted correctly? I was looking last week and it was that price for a 7 day cruise for Presiden's Week (peak season). I would go online and price it out again. Do you have a suite?

That is ridiculous. Do you live on LI? I would do airfare separate on your own and fly Southwest for probably less than $200 a person.

Do NOT book air with your cruise. Most of the time you can do better on your own. I have gone on more than 14 cruises and we never book air when we book the cruise.

That is ridiculously high for air btw.

Right now to just price out on Delta - for those dates you are talking about $240 PP - and I personally think you can do better if you watch for Jet blue and southwest to release those dates and Delta probably will come down a bit - I was just playing around to get an idea. $400 and change is ridiculous pp for airfare to MCO. That is if you are flying from NY btw.

Re: Disney Cruise

we just came back from our first cruise (a disney cruise) last week and it was one of our best vacations ever. Hubby complained about the price -- and then enjoyed every minute - especially as he requested THREE entrees some nights! That seems a bit high for a four day. We paid under $3K for us and our four year old (the ages of children vary the price) for a seven night western carribean - is this on the disney dream? Maybe because its a newer ship.

As far as weather, yes, they will re-route. We re-routing one night at sea so that we wouldn't miss out on the pirate theme night and the fireworks - captain rerouted the ship to avoid rain. But october is risky regarding weather - you are at the tail-end of hurricane season. Have you thought of january - prices also could have been lower since its considered low season for cruising.

We booked through small world vacations and got a $175 onboard credit - they offerered the same price as booking with disney directly - but I wanted those credits! And they were great to work with.

Let me know if you have any questions Chat Icon
