Does anyone else think like this?

Ok, so I think I'm crazy...I really don't want to be due around christmas time..I checked it out and if I conceived on April 24th I would be due January 15th....but the baby could come early. Also, my family lives out of town and that would leave me not to be with my family over christmas (which is my favorite holiday) So this month is cutting it close.
DH and I decided it was time to start trying (or being less careful) but it's cutting it close...I know in my head that it normally doesn't happen on the first try (but it could) but I also don't want to put off a month...plus if it happendit would just be a blessing right?

Ok...go ahead tell me i'm crazy..lol I just need to hear it.

Lol, well, if you're crazy, than I am too! If we conceived last month, the baby would have been due Dec. 15th and I was worried about the baby being late and too close to Christmas. So - I think thoughts like these are normal. Yes, I totally agree with you - a baby born on any date (holiday or not) is a blessing! So, I say - go for it! Hee hee! Chat Icon

Nope, definitely not! And now, I just realized that if I do get a BFP this month, I'll be due around Jan. 9th! Your first born is usually late, right? Ack! Lol! Well, there's no turning back now! What will be will be! Chat Icon

I do and I don't! I really didn't want to have another winter baby but I realized that in the whole scheme of things, it only disrupts a very small part of your life. If I had conceived this past month I would have been due Dec 28th which is totally not ideal but I still would have been ecstatic! Ideally I will get pregnant in another 3 months and have a baby at the end of march, although if it takes that much longer I will be going a little nuts with worry!

Re: Does anyone else think like this?

I don't think you are crazy, but for me it does not make any difference. I try to look at every month that the due date would fall on as a positive. Like if I got a BFP this month (which I am a pretty sure I won't) my due date would be New Years Eve.

I would not be able to see my family for the holidays, but I try to look at that as a positive. I can get my own Christmas tree for once, and it would be the last little bit of time for my DH and me to be alone. Also if he/she were born on New Years they have a HUGE party every year paid for! Chat Icon

So yes, I totally get what you are saying, but I want a baby so badly that I just don't care when they are born.

ITA! When we first started TTC I was bummed that I would have a winter baby. Now, in our 5th cycle although we've had no luck we are getting closer and closer to have a spring baby so it's almost like a blessing in disguise!

Every month has something to offer and although some may seem more convenient than others I have learned that any month of the year is good enough for me! Chat Icon

You are NOT crazy. Ideally, I wouldn't want to have a baby that close to the holidays either. I don't want to be stuck inside with Chat Icon for months. DH and I are teachers, and I'd love for him to be able to take some time off with us - but he won't be able to do it right before state exams are given. Holidays are a stressful time of year. And (please don't flame for this) I worry about doctors jumping to do a c-section instead of letting nature do its thing so they can get home to their holiday dinners. But if we're TTCing for awhile, I feel like I'd change my mind and be grateful for a baby, whatever the birthday!

The calculator i use is on www.mymonthlycycles.com they have a reverse calculator. If you pick the date you want to have the baby it tells you when you have to conceive!

Re: Does anyone else think like this?

i feel the same way. if we did conceive this month, i would have been due on 12/30...I had DS 2 wks early so it probably would have been a Dec baby...I always said i didnt want a Dec baby bc I hate when birthdays compete with the holidays (not to mention my DH, father and FIL all have Dec birthdays), but we tried this month bc I am obvioulsy not the most fertile person Chat Icon
Anyway, I think AF showed up this AM and for the first time I am actually not too disappointed.
SO I am very glad that I am not the only one that feels this way --- phew!

Re: Does anyone else think like this?

You're not crazy. We all have the ideal time in our heads to conceive, but once you are trying for a few months- which I hope you won't be- you realize that it doesn't matter when that baby comes, as long as it comes. We've been trying for 8 months and I no longer have an ideal time, the sooner then better at this point. I will however probably skip TTC the months of August because of work reasons. I teach dance and I can't be out of work for recital. That's the big culmination of the year for my kids and I would feel terrible to let them down.

Nah you're not crazy. I too had thoughts along those lines but then the dr's wanted to run a couple of tests so that haulted the process of TTC for us.

I totally agree that you're not crazy to have these thoughts! I think many women have some kind of preference one way or another.
Presents are not what Christmas is all about anyway (IMO), in case that's a worry.

Re: Does anyone else think like this?

Actually, I was hoping for a Christmastime baby. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but I thought it would be cool to have a b-day with the tree up, etc.

If I were to get pregnant this cycle, I would be due around January 17th. I HATE January...IMO, the worst month! My DH's b-day is January, but still. Chat Icon So I can relate to what you're saying. It's not stopping me from TTC this month however...

I would love to be really pregnant over the summer months because I think warm weather maternity clothes are nicer than winter stuff Chat Icon But what it comes down to is, I'd take a BFP ... or a due date, any day! If i got a BFP last month, I would've been due on 12/23. My Mom is going away on vacation Xmas Day and I would need my MOMMY!!!! We didn't try that much last cycle.

Re: Does anyone else think like this?

I don't think you are crazy.

When you first start TTC, you think about things like this and want to plan for the ideal and hopefully that will work out for you.

Back in June/July when I first started TTC again, I thought along the same lines. By the time I got a BFP with a viable (please please please) pregnancy, I didn't care about due date at all, I was/am just elated to be pregnant.

I'm due right around Thanksgiving-I know there could be issues with school cutoffs when she/he is ready for kindergarten, I know Thanksgiving and Christmas with my family may be out for this year-things that seemed less than perfect when we first started trying, but now, they don't matter.

I totally agree with you all. I am sure that overtime I will just be thankful to have a baby on the way. For now I will leave it up to the powers that be to have things happen as they should! I'll just keep going as planned!

Re: Does anyone else think like this?

DH and I watched this movie called Idiocracy and it really hit home with our TTC plans. The premise of the movie is that in 500 hundred years, society has been dumbed down because smart, educated couples wait longer and longer to have a family because it's never the right time and eventually they get too old to have kids. Meanwhile, everyone else is having like 10 kids each and the world is being taken over by their 'dumb' offspring.

We wanted a baby in the late spring/early summer because DH has school and it would be better for my work schedule but after watching that movie, I said let's just do it, let's not over think it. People have babies all the time and they make it work so we'll just spin the wheel and make the best of it.

I totally understand where you're coming from though. It would be nice if everything worked out.

Re: Does anyone else think like this?

Sorry to crash over here ..

But both DH and I are winter babies and I never wanted a winter baby...well DS was born 12/20. I was terrified of spending the holidays in the hospital alone.

But on the positive side (in my experience)...
- Having a baby around Christmas is such an amazing blessing. It was a gift to our whole family and somehow just made it that much better.
- Even though DS was only 5 days old we did go to my BILs on Christmas day (didnt see my family as my niece and nephew were sick) and he slept through most of the day tucked away safely in his cousin's bedroom...
- By summer I had this alert active baby who I could take places and was starting to explore his world...
- in the first few months, you are tired from not sleeping, or just figuring out this whole parenting thing but after 6+ months I felt comfortable and was able to enjoy my summer with him

I will say that for #2 I still plan to try for a warmer month but now I know its not so bad having a holiday baby!

Just go with it and whatever will be, will be!
