Re: LI vs Anywhere else

I don't know if I could ever leave NY. I would never leave my family. Right now, we're looking for a place here on LI.

We just moved to Monroe, NY. DH has only a 1 hour commute to NYC, and we purchased a lakefront home for a fraction of what it would cost on LI (and that is factoring in all the renovations we did). I work from home, so the commute was a non-issue for me.

Re: LI vs Anywhere else

We live on the CT shoreline, and the prices aren't much better than LI. We're looking to buy a house next year, but even the somewhat reasonably prices houses nearby are on almost no land (typically between .1 and .25 acres). We started thinking about Monroe, CT. I'd have to leave my NYC job if we move further into CT b/c the commute would be too long, but I'm willing to leave in order to buy a house we really like that won't break the bank.

Re: LI vs Anywhere else

I moved from LI to AZ about 2 1/2 years ago. Best decision I ever made. I was paying $1500 a month in RENT!!! and I couldn't even afford to buy a condo, let a lone a house there. I built a brand new house for $115,000 and my property value has gone up over $100,000 in one year. I'm looking at a house on Saturday that is on the water, with a dock in a gated community for $295,000 this weekend. You can't do that on LI.

But I do miss things about LI...like StefanieChat Icon

I plan on moving down south as soon as my lease is up....

I love New York but its sooo expensive to live... Dh's salary transfers with him...wherever we go... so to live here making x amount of money and just making it, when that same amount of money makes us quite wealthy somewhere else, just dosent make any sense...

that is a great deal!

We are heading to Charlotte.

I am also a LOVER of Boston. It is my favorite city. I would love to live there, but way too much money.

I think my parents are going to wind up following me as well. Once my brother and sister are finished with high school, I think they will move. All my other siblings are so career driven, grandkids are far off for them, so I have a feeling once the babies come so will my parents.

I did not think I would like it up here...too Much snow and I had some preconceived notions about upstate NY. I have to say it is not at all what I expected, in a good way. The people up here are SO nice and the area is beautiful. The SD is great too!

It truly is!! We can't wait to begin our lives anew and raise our future children in a HOME!! Chat Icon

NY was not a possibility for us, not when we saw what money buys in GA.

I saw you were Colorado bound, that is wonderful!! It is so nice there, we thought about Colorado, but right now we both have job paths in Charlotte. Hope your move goes smoothly.

Re: LI vs Anywhere else

I have had fleeting thoughts about it, and it makes sense, but neither DH nor I want to live far from our families. We also love NYC and can't imagine living far from all it has to offer.

Re: LI vs Anywhere else

DH and I go back and forth about moving to Florida! Pros: cheaper, warmer, my best friend lives there, cheaper, cheaper...lolol.
Cons: our families are here, his job pays more here...

Re: LI vs Anywhere else

We definitely consider moving, but mostly in the tri-state area, where things aren't much cheaper. I grew up in Princeton, NJ, which I liked much better than Long Island, but it's just as expensive, if not more so. Then I lived in an area of CT which is just as expensive as Long Island, but I loved it too. I also lived upstate, which I did not like so much. So I would seriously consider NJ, CT, or parts of PA.
