Yet another mask question

If you are in a cubicle at work, mask off because you are sitting and working, do you put your mask on if someone quickly comes up behind you to chat? Sometimes it is very sudden and by the time I turn around they are already breathing in my space. They don't wait for me to put it on. It makes for an awkward situation.

Re: Yet another mask question

If they are coming up to talk to you they should have theirs on. They shouldn't be breathing in your space.
Then you can just put yours on.
Are they wearing a mask when they walk over to you?

Yes, we are not allowed to be walking around without them. But they are often all up in my space before I can even turn around, so its weird. I guess as long as they are wearing theirs I shouldn't worry too much?

Their mask should protect you from their droplets yes. At least for the time it takes for you to get yours on. It's best if you both have it on obviously, but them having it will protect you until you can get a mask on.
You know, even before all this, I prefer if someone just call or IM me rather than coming up in my space. That's just my anti-socialness talking though.... lol

no you dont have to worry but they should according to the experts. a Mask does not protect you but protects others.

so based on that if they have one on you are fine but they are not.

honestly though I wouldnt stress it but thats me. when i see friends we dont wear masks the whole time and our not 6ft from each other.

I leave mine dangling from my ear so I can stick it on real quick.

ETA: Or sometimes I just leave my nose exposed so I can pull it up as needed.

Yet another mask question

Regardless of whether they have their mask on, they shouldn't be getting that close and shouldn't be entering your cubicle space. I can't imagine the cubicle is so big that they can't get your attention without getting into your space. Is there any way for you to designate a sort of "do not cross" line? I know in some of the office space where I work, the organization has put yellow and black striped tape on the floor as a reminder to not enter that space, or at least to not enter if it's not safe. Could your office do something like that?

Yet another mask question

I would tell them I am uncomfortable with them entering my space. I teach and sometimes need to talk with the teacher in the room adjacent to mine. I knock on her door and then enter. I’m never closer than 12-15 feet and we both still wear masks.

This. The CDC has gone back and forth on this, but there is research that in many indoor spaces, 6 feet is not enough and you really need masks plus distance. I mean, if no one has covid, no one has covid, but it will spread in many indoor spaces despite the fact that people are 6 feet apart or using masks OR distance.

It's why so much spread has occurred in restaurants and indoor events.

OMG yes- some of those masks felt like they were ripping my ears off! I got better ones now- from work and some from Etsy and they are so much more comfortable!
