xpost: NYS Disability help needed

I am so mad right now I cant even see straight!

I have been out of work for 7 weeks for maternity leave. I filled out my disability papers, brought them to the doctor to be filled out, and brought them to my job to be sent to NYS. I also have combined life disability insurance and those papers were filled out and brought to work to be filed as well.

Today I got a phone call from a coworker of mine that is also out for maternity, asking me if I started getting my disability $$ yet. When I told her no, she informed me to call and check on the status of my claim because she found out that they never sent in her paperwork.

Needless to say I called both NYS and Combined Life and neither have claims on file. There is a 30 day time limit to file these claims from the time of disability which was March 14th.

Now what do I do??? Am I out the $$ or is there something else I can do?? Ive tried calling the twit responsible for this mess at HR and I keep getting either her voicemail or an excuse as to why I cant talk to her.

NYS disability has to be filed within 6 months so you don't have to worry about that. I don't know about your personal di so I would call the carrier and find out.

are you sure there is a 30 day limit...i know i had to be out for 30 days BEFORE i could collect disability. I only got one check...and that was at the end of the disability. It is sooo frustrating...Good luck
