XP What would you eat if you were watching your salt intake?

Obviously what I have been eating is the complete opposite, as I had high BP today, and I am normally low.

Doc said I need to be careful and watch salt and sugar so I don't gain too much weight.

Suggestions?

Lots of fresh fruit and veggies, and not as much processed or canned stuff since it tends to contain more salt. Chat Icon

no watch the fruit=sugar.
stay away from processed foods, read labels about the sodium, dont cook with salt.
eat more protein, watch the carb intake and drink a ton of water.

I would stay away from soups and frozen meals (like lean cuisine, smart ones ,etc) they are very high in sodium.

Definately not too much fruit as it is loaded with sugar....These fruits are LOADED with sugar:
Grapes,Tangerine, Oranges, Pineapple,
Kiwi

Low in Sugar:
Rhubarb, Strawberries & any berries, Grapefruit, Melons, Apricots, Plums, Peaches, Pears, Guava, Cherries, Apples,
Papaya

Definately stay away from processed foods & packaged foods. Anything that is white or loaded with carbs. Stick with protein & do not cook with salt. Put the table salt away in a closet so you are not tempted

Try to eat at home as much as possible most restaurants and take out are very high in sodium.

Limit prepackaged foods as most have a lot of sodium. You are best to try to cook your own meals as much as you can.

Things to stay away from:
Chinese food, cold cuts (unless low sodium), soups are just a few things off the top of my head that have a lot of salt in them.
