Re: X-post Puppy store Smith Haven Mall

I peppered them with a few comments this morning. The email I sent to the pet store requesting information on their breeders went unanswered, big surprise.

Anyone who claims that they are not supplied from a mill or BYB is going to get the same question from me. But this needs more attention, so I'm going to contact Save-A-Pet again about organizing a protest. Last time, they invited thousands, so they have a big pool to draw from.

Most excellent. Everyone should know your email went unanswered because they have no answer. If anyone doesn't know the conditions the dogs are kept in at puppy mills (and many are in Amish communities which I didn't know) take a look for yourself and see what this store is supporting:

the puppy mill project

Re: X-post Puppy store Smith Haven Mall

Lets face it, we have a better chance of putting stores like that out of business if they have no clientele. Sadly, I have someone I know very well who is a dog collector and nothing, no reasoning or guilt will deter her.

But I am being optimistic that if people KNEW and educated themselves on what they were doing, they wouldn't buy a dog from a store.

This sleazy business knows how to draw people in there with cute photos and calling it "American Dog Club" (no such thing) which is very close to "American Kennel Club". They provide just enough assurance to ease the consciences of people who want the instant gratification of shopping. Do the shoppers really care where these dogs came from? If they did, they wouldn't buy there.

Dogs shouldn't be assembly-line bred in factories, brokered in business deals, and sold in a store. It's just awful, start to finish. Chat Icon

I'm really surprised they haven't stopped me yet. I've tried to be careful to avoid that happening, since I stand a better chance of getting my posts seen by others at least.

Does anyone know where a protest could legally stand, without getting arrested? The parking lots are owned by the mall, so I don't think we could stand at the doors.

I don't think I said anything that warranted banning besides calling them out for deleting posts. Oh well. No loss on my part.

Has anyone thought to contact Sachem Patch about doing a story?

News 12 too! Every Friday they try and get shelter dogs adopted out by showing them on air.

They haven't banned me, Tracy Ann on facebook, yet but I'm shocked! I keep posting and it keeps disappearing. We need to do a protest outside of the mall and draw more negative attention to it.

Re: X-post Puppy store Smith Haven Mall

I've been all over it. I posted on Smith Haven Mall page as well as the American Dog Club page. Repeatedly on the mall's page, and I encouraged as many people as possible on my own friends list also.

I've been posting as well and encouraging my friends to do the same. On the Smithhaven FB page they keep writing that this isnt a puppy mill store. Someone even posted this link:http://www.humanesociety.org/assets/pdfs/pets/puppy_mills/new_york_pet_stores.pdf. which proves they are and their answer is that the link is two years old and they just opened two weeks ago which is a ridiculous statement almost condoning prior abuses. I hope more people get involved and comment on that too.
Thank you to the OP for bringing this to my attention!

Re: X-post Puppy store Smith Haven Mall

Just a suggestion..

For anyone who is serious about closing this branch of the business, contact the dog breed organization in the state (email) and directly ask them if the reputable breeders that are registered with their organization would ever sell to ANY dog store.

Every single dog that my family has was purchased through the breeder and they are all affiliated with the breed organization in their state.

There isn't 1 good reason a true breeder would ever sell to a store. There are wait lists of owners looking to get a puppy from these breeders. Every dog that isn't adopted should come with papers stating who the parents are and who the parents owners are.

Apparently if you disagree with them or provide them with legit information, that violates their "code of conduct".

Go to Simon.com, go to contact us, and send feedback about not only about your decision to boycott their malls until they remove that store but also the unprofessional conduct of the administrator(s) of their fb page.

That was me! I called the store pretending to be interested in one of their dogs and asked a bunch of questions about temperament, etc. followed by the breeder the dog came from. The manager refused to tell me over the phone bc "they don't want ppl going behind their backs and buying directly from their breeders."

I posted that link too the other day but they deleted it before they banned me from their fb page. SH Mall's response to the link is that it's from 2011 and the store has only been open for 1-2 weeks. Duh people! It's a chain! Ridiculous.

Protest is supposedly from 12-5 outside of John Harvards on 6/1/13.

Yea, I saw their response on dhs account but I can't see it on mine for some reason. All their responses are stupid lol
