WWYD: 2yr bday party invite from school

AJ got her first invite

But I'm confused. Of course every child in her class got one so its not like its a personal invite. I don't really know this kid or his parents. AJ is a early drop off and late pick up so I never see the other parents.

Do we go?

I mean it might be nice to get to know some other families but what if none of the other class kids show up and I'm alone with a whole bunch of strangers.

WWYD

If it matters its at a Gymboree (which I've never been) can I show up scope it out then leave or hang out on our own?

Now that I have a home and AJ is settled in school I'm getting used to this family/home/school stuff. A few days ago someone said "We should exchange numbers for a play date" I said sure.. then later said "what would I do if she had given me a number right then and there!?!?"Chat Icon

believe it or not.. im actually kinda shy until I'm *IN* a situtation then I always feel awkward until I get used to people. We don't socialize much Chat Icon

Def. go! AJ willl have so much fun running around on the gymboree things, you will be too busy chasing her to chat for too long if you don't want to.

and if you feel uncomfortable, no harm in leaving early

I would absolutely go! AJ was invited as a classmate and friend, I'm sure most of the other kids and parents from the class will be there.

I think it will be good for you too! I am also shy but I work at being outgoing so DS doesn't grow up feeling awkward in new situations Chat Icon Chat Icon

Is this because you included your info to be on the class list? This is basically what it's for, for parents to get in contact with you for playdates and party invites. If you're that uncomfortabel I would ask to be removed from the class list.

Honestly though I would go, it's great to meet new people and your DC will know at lease one person there.

It's good for all of you-I would go.

It gets you more involved with other parents-if it you are the only ones from school that go, you'll have a connection to this parent at least.

AJ will have a great time.

I like to get involved so I go whenever we can. I've made some good friends from birthday parties and playdates-if it doesn't work out, it's only 2 hours anyway.

Unless you are anti-social, I would go. why not?

Last year I only invited a few kids from daycare to DD's party. I chose the kids that I liked when I did drop off and pick and ones she mentioned a lot. I had only met 1 set of parents prior to that. They all wound up coming and it was nice to get to know them a little better.

GO! We invited DS whole daycare class to his party and I had never met any of the parents. We all had a great time with the kids.

It will be great for AJ too. I think for her sake, so she can socialize you need to just push through your shyness for her sake Chat Icon

I bet you both have a great time.

go and have fun.

and fwiw, I think you are reading way too much into the invite. she was invited as was every other kid. my dd was invited to all the kids parties in her school too. we took it for what it was, an invitaion to a party.

I agree. Don't forget, these kids spend 7-8 hours a day together, 5 days a week. Even though you don't know the parents, the kids know each other pretty well Chat Icon
