WWYD - first birthday related

So, I have a friend who has a friend who does amazing cakes. I found a cake that I love that Dortoni made (Backyardigans) but when I called up and told them how many people I was having they said it would cost over $800. This girl is saying she can do the cake for 250.

My problem is this - she is horrible with follow-up. I have emailed her NUMEROUS times and she NEVER gets back to me. When she does - it's about a week or two later.

Supposedly, she does this full time but I can't imagine how when she doesn't respond to my emails for weeks.

I am anal and need to have this on lockdown now. Should I just look elsewhere? Give her another chance? I am still waiting for a response from her - from an email I sent her last Tuesday. To me - that is unacceptable!

What do you think?

I would look elsewhere. I have no patience for irresponsible people. Chat Icon

Re: WWYD - first birthday related

I would email her again, if you don't hear from her by maybe Wednesday, I'd look elsewhere...it would stress me dealing with someone like that Chat Icon

In your email to her, I'd say something how you're an anal person (your words, I'm not calling you names Chat Icon) and just want everything finalized so you don't have to stress...that way she knows she's not dealing w/someone she can be so casual with in terms of responses.

Oh - well - let me state that I in no way will ever spend 800 for a cake. I will have to start calling up other bakeries - or just get a regular cake - which at this point - I'm fine with also!

I have said that. I have been emailing her since January. With hardly any responses. It's getting on my last nerve now!

Nope, I'd pass over her then. Find another bakery, it's not worth the stress & aggrevation.

$250 for a CAKE? Even that is a bit much imo...

What do you get for that??

But thats not your question Chat Icon Chat Icon I would pass her up, and I would tell her why, she should know for future customers.

Re: WWYD - first birthday related

I am doing our own backyardigans cake (helped that I used to have a side business as a cake decorator!). I do have enough patience to do it for DS.

I would NOT do business with the girl at $250.

She is totally unreliable.

I am way too organized when it comes to this stuff to worry whether she will do the cake or not. Especially for DS' 1st birthday.

There are plenty of bakeries that can do it.

exact;ly..bakeris will go above and beyond.

Heck we are going to Costco and we have an edible Backyardigans personlized thingy for our cake and they have worked with me sooo much in colors, and designs...for a $20 cake they have talked to me like 5 times and are doing a great job.

DOnt fret over this, find someone you trust.

Re: WWYD - first birthday related

I definitely wouldn't go with the friend of a friend. Too unreliable...

Personally, I would look into a less expensive cake. I ordered Thomas' from Dortoni and it was $90. It was a 3/4 sheet cake (feeds 50 - 60, so you would probably need full sheet). It was decorated beautifully. Beautiful colors, buttercream balloons insead of flowers and a Winnie the Pooh plastic decoration.
