WOW...Facebook connected me
with my cousin (well, my mom was trying to adopt her and her brother) who ran away at 16 yrs old. She's now 39
She had a rough life, thought she found a better one with her boyfriend and took off to New Hampshire.
We later found out the boyfriend died about a year after they ran away together and she stayed with his family.
I found her about 10 yrs ago and tried keeping in contact with her. For personal reasons, she wasn't ready.
Through out the years, she did stay in contact with her brother the best she could.
Last week I searched for her on FB and sure enough she had a profile. But no pictures. I sent her a simple message that said "is this you". I knew it was she has a very unusal name.
She answered it was and we've been catching up the last few days.
Today she put up some pictures of her and her family. I haven't seen a picture of her in 23 yrs! I really can't believe that much time has passed.
I'm  that she will want to come to NY for a visit this summer. But for now, I'm happy just being able to connect through FB.
I know FB gets a bad rap at times. So I just wanted to share a postive story.

thats awesome... My dad found his cousins whom he hasnt spoken with since he was a child.. His parents and uncle had a falling out.
I think FB is awesome~

That is awesome! I too just recently found a birth cousin.(i was adopted) It is amazing how many people can find each other !!!

Yay you! I hope there is some healing on her end. I know if I was missing someone like you, I'd be thrilled to pieces you were back.

thats amazing!!! the same thing happened to me, sort of.
My dad's brother got divorced when I was 6- it was a really bad divorce and his 3 kids stayed with their mom. I hadn't seen them in YEARS!! almost 2 years ago, my grandmom passed away and the 3 kids came to the funeral. We found out we are all on facebook and now we all keep in touch that way--- its soo neat to have that, after not being in touch for so long!!
I also know a couple that are now engaged because they reconnected on facebook LOL
so i agree that it shouldn't always get the bad rep that it does!

 Awwww, thank you Barb.
She was actually more like a sister, my mom raised her and her brother most of their lives. I only found out a few yrs ago they were never officially adopted.
We always considered each other siblings and I still call her brother my brother, not cousin.
I hope she's healed from the past. If not I hope she's at least is in a better place to have a relationship with us again.
So far so good!
