Would you travel far from home by car at 32 weeks pg?

We booked a beach house for August, before I was pg. Half of it is paid for.

My brother, his wife, their 2 kids (from Colorado) and my parents will be joining myself, DH and Ava.

It is on Long Beach Island, on the Jersey Shore. Last year, the drive there took us 6 hours with traffic. The drive home- with no traffic took about 3 hours.

I just switched OB's. My old one said it was fine to go, the new one says NO!

He said that he usually doesn't have a problem with patients travelling in the tri-state area at that point, but he said the Jersey Shore traffic is insane and how could I get home if I went into early labor?!

I will be having a repeat c-section and getting my tubes tied.

My actual due date is Sept. 25th, but the c-section will probably be the week of Sept. 10th. The trip is scheduled for Aug 2-9.

The house is not available any other week this summer. I don't want to dissapoint anyone, but now I am scared. What should I do???

I personally would not. But I am biased, b/c my water broke really really early during my pregnancy, and I just thank god that I was in town and in the vicinity of my hospital.

Whoa!!!! At 32 weeks pregnant I was heading to nearly the exact same place on the jersey shore. My dr said it was fine because I would be near civilization. (He said as long as I wasn't booking a trip out of the country or remote, it was fine.) I actually researched hospitals in the area, just to be prepared. (But that's me because it makes me more relaxed.)

I wouldn't either but that is because I went into preterm labor at 32 weeks with my 2nd.

I would go! You can always stop for breaks along the way down or on the way home if needed. Besides, there are tons of hospitals along the route Chat Icon

I personally wouldn't but that's also because I was also having preterm labor from 32 weeks on. I was supposed to go upstate which is 4 hrs away at 33 weeks due to my BIL passing and I was not allowed to go for that even because it was too close.

I'd go as long as things were fine closer to the date of the trip.

You never know what things will be like closer to July.

But I know my SIL flew at about that point.

Re: Would you travel far from home by car at 32 weeks pg?

I did last summer. I was like 33-34 weeks. I was only nervous about it because with my 1st pregnancy at 33 weeks I had some early labor issues and had my 1st baby at 37 weeks but the ob said fine and couldn't see why I could not so I went and it was all good. Another ob in the practice had was more skeptical only because of my previous issues and the 2nd time usually goes quicker. She said if I had any signs of labor before then I shouldn't and if I wanted to play it safe she would give me an internal that week and if nothing going on - she saw no reason not to go but if I was dialted at all or anything seemed to be different I should stay. So I played it by ear (my inlaws rented the house no matter what so money issues for us to worry about) and felt good and didn't get the internal even (my regular ob thought that was nuts to do) and went and all was good.

PS - At 30-31 weeks, I went to PA for a long weekend trip and didn't think anything of it. I was more nervous because my 2nd trip was 33-34 weeks.

Barring any pregnancy complications, I would. I went upstate to my SILs lake house around the same time in my pregnancy when I was pg with my oldest. It was so nice to be away and relaxing and not too close to the EDD at all.

I would totally go. I went to Lancaster, PA for a little shopping overnighter with 2 of my girlfriends when I was about 32-33 weeks preggo. Aside from having to make frequent stops to pee, I was fine. I suggest if you get stuck in traffic to pull over and pee every chance you get.

I would go. Just figure out the nearest hospital just in case you do need to go in early, but unless you have complications, do it. Enjoy some vacation before your baby is born!

Re: Would you travel far from home by car at 32 weeks pg?

I would...

I was about 33-34 week and traveled to Maryland (4hr drive)

My dr. gave me "permission"-
I felt great and walked to entire inner harbour while I was there...

My thoughts- as long as there is a good hospital near by, Ill be fine!

I would - unless it was a high-risk pregnancy. I wasn't particular about delivering in a certain hospital or with a certain person. I had my preferences but wasn't worried if I had another doctor. If you have your heart set, than I wouldn't go.

It's not like you're driving to the Ozarks. There are hospitals along the way.

Well we moved from Farmingdale to an area part of the Jersey Shore ( we are 20 minutes north of Long Branch) and my last day the traveling back and forth to get the new house ready was the day before I went into labor and I was 2 days late. If you leave your house around 8:30/9am (I think you live in suffolk) you will not hit traffic. It would take us an hour and half the longest 2 hours from LI. As far as the days you picked I think you will be fine because their is no major holiday.
