would you be pi$$ed off if this was the message you got from your doctors office?

I called this morning and left a message explaining that DD hasnt really been eating her cereal or formula for the past week or so. I stated she has no fever and is acting normal in every other way. And she has wet diapers.

I get a call 4 hours later (I couldnt get to the phone in time)
the secretary says the doctor heard your message and said
"give Tylenol every four hours and increase formula and cereal"

Now I am not trying to over react here but ***!!!!!

She has no fever, is not cranky and is acting normal ---why am I giving her meds?
and how the hell would you like me to increase the formula and cereal if she will not let me put the bottle or spoon physically in her mouth!!!!

I am so annoyed right now
I just called back and told them this make no sense and someone needs to call me back.
Am I being ridiculous???

I would be annoyed. It sounds like they got your situation mixed up with another patient's situation! It makes no sense, IMO!

maybe she's assuming it's teething, and the tylenol will decrease DD's gum pain and make her want to put stuff in her mouth again!

I'm assuming this is what they were thinking as well... the message was extremely unclear and lazy though. I would definitely be annoyed.

Basically they are just assuming she is teething - fine but the doctor wouldnt even get on the phone. the secretary had to put me on hold 3 times obviously to go ask the doctor the questions I was asking and she sounded totally annoyed by it.
I just feel their message was not detailed at all.
I feel like they were and still are blowing me off.
They want me to give her tylenol for 24 hours and then see how it goesChat Icon Chat Icon
maybe it is a little bit me but I personally dont see the point in giving drugs when you are not "sick"
I barely take any medication myself.
I have no baby tylenol in the house so I have to wait for my DH to get home and then I will give her one dose but to give her 6 doses to me is just excessive!!!

What the heck?
Is that the standard answer they read off a card every time someone calls?
What does tylenol have to do with your situation?
And how can you up her food when she isn't intereted in eating?
God that would anger me!

first, let me say that i think your doctors office handled this pretty unprofessionally. the doctor, or his nurse, should have gotten on the phone with you to answer your questions.
With that said, I don't think it's unreasonable to give tylenol for the next 24 hours. Tylenol is not just for fever, but also for pain. your DC might not appear to be in pain, but still may be. kids process pain differently than we do. Your DC may be displaying pain by not eating, because it hurts. Giving tylenol or motrin (if greater than 6 months) around the clock is not dangerous at all, and may be beneficial. So i think that you should try it, maybe for a little longer than 24 hours and see what happens. The reality is this: DC is still making wet diapers, so they are adequatly hydrated. has no fever, or any other symptoms of illness, so that's all goodl. there is really nothing your doc is going to be able to do for you anyway, so it's unfortunatly going to be trial and error. I hope your DC feels betterChat Icon

This is exactly what our old office used to do, We no longer use them (Branch Pediatrics)..The Dr. Thought he was the best thing going,,,,He hardly ever let us get a word in when we were there, And the sec. was always answering the questions, when we called in.....

I don't agree with how the office handled it, but I do agree with Tylenol. Babies cannot communicate and maybe your DC's teeth are really bothering them, or maybe he has an ear infection you don't know about. I would def be giving the Tylenol, maybe not EVERY 4 hours but I would def give it now and then again before bed and see how tomorrow is. Its good to have baby Tylenol in the house at all times.

ETS; I also see that you posted your DC isn't sleeping good anymore, Not sleeping and not wanting to eat to me is def TEETHING! Its a killer!

I am not saying it cant be teething. I just think the doctor handled the whole situation poorly.
The sleeping is confusing because we just stopped swaddling her because she turned over in bed last week and I think she is also trying to adjust to this change as well
