why would you buy us 250 newborn diapers???

I just don't get my MIL....

Don't get me wrong, it's great that she is excited for her first grandchild, but why can't she buy us useful stuff!

She gets us stuffed animals, some are not even appropriate for a newborn. She buys clothes that are "fashion" verses "everyday".

She's even gotten us winter type clothers for the age she'll be in in the summer, and she says well, she can get cold. In the summer she needs a winter coat and fleece??

Now she gets us 250 newborn diapers?

I guess I just wish she's get us more useful stuff...like the stuff off of our registry!

We live in an apartment, space is limited, and we tell her what we need.

Return them! DD only used 1/2 a box of newborns before she grew out of them.

Maybe she didn't realize nb is only up to 8 lbs., and most babies are that size at a month old?

I hear you on the MIL issue though. WE got more crap from my MIL then we have room for in our house.

I tell myself at least she wants to be involoved, smile say thank you, and put it away forever.

Geeze - a tad excessive doesn't she think? Lol. I hope she brings you the receipt or at the very least she can be convinced to return the mega-box for a smaller box of newborn (90 count) and a box of size 1.

chances are you'll go through those 250 diapers. BUT...you can ALWAYS exchange for size without a receipt at Walmart!

DS was 7Lbs13 and wore them for about 1-1.5 week.

You may find a store that sells that size and tell them you lost the receipt and a store credit.

Good to know about Walmart!

Just be thankful your MIL gets things for your LO. Mine thought she was generous when someone left an unopened pack of wipes at her house and she gave them to me. It was nice but that is all she has done. She doesn't think/get LO anything.

I have 3 96-count boxes of Newborn diapers from my shower. Luckily I have the receipts, so I'll keep them and see what I need!

My mother did the same thing with stuffed animals - they don't realize that the eyes can come off and become a choking hazzard. Just be glad she is excited for you!

My last sono showed the baby at 7.5 lbs - guess she won't be using that many newborn diapers! and I got a whole bunch at my shower! (in a diaper cake -so I def can't return them)

If you find you can't return the diapers, donate them to a church or soup kitchen - they are always looking for baby stuff to give to the needy....

250 newborn diapers might not actually be that much. They say up to 8 pounds but they can go a little over that and the baby usually loses weight in the first couple of weeks anyway. 250 diapers is actually only going to last you about 25 days. But if you do feel that it's too much then return them and go with less. Most places will take back diapers without a receipt.

I hear you about the stuffed animal thing. My MIL was always buying DD stuffed animals. I hated it. IMO stuffed animals are just dust collectors. We wound up donating a lot of the ones she bought.

you may actually use them all...I had 4 packs of the newborn size swaddlers from pampers...used them all and could have used another package or 2 cause the size 1's were big on her!

you just never know! DD was 7.2 when she was born but lost about a pound before leaving the hospital...

I am SURE I used more than 250 NB diapers.

DS was 6lbs when he was born and we used NBs for over five weeks.

I know exactly what you are going through but for me its actually my mom and not MIL. I had my shower and got tons and tons and tons of clothes sizes newborn all the way up to 24 months. Well every time we go to the store she must buy just one more outfit, I'm like the baby already has at least 20+ outfits for each stage and for some of them probably won't even get to what I have, so why..... by more. I'd love it if instead she'd buy diapers which we don't have much of or some bottles or even like a small storage unit maybe for the clothes that we do have but not more clothes. I told her this many times and she keeps telling me that I am not letting her have any fun. Do youself a favor and just return it if you can when she's not around that's what I've been doing and use the money else where needed. GOOD LUCK

My baby never fit into NB diapers, we started at size 1.

BRU will exchange them for the next size without a receipt, but I think only if they come from there (I was just able to do that this past weekend.)

We had 2 packages of Pampers NB and we used all but about 8 (about 200 diapers all together). Our DD was 7lbs 10oz when she was born and was 7lbs 5oz leaving the hospital. At her 2 week appt she was just about 8lbs and the NB still fit her. You might be able to use them or exchange them for a bigger size.

maybe you can tell her that the dr. thinks you will have an 8 pounder and the diapers will be small from the getgo!

At least I am not the only one with these feelings.

Again, I am glad she is excited, but I wish she would listen to what we need.
