It's technically not strict whole 30 because you're not supposed to make anything that resembles a treat (which I think is stupid so I ignore it Chat Icon) but I make paleo pancakes with all whole 30 ingredients every Sunday and have a few for breakfast everyday.

ETA: I never made it a full 30 days on strict whole 30. I think its too restrictive and fall off the wagon and most people I know who do make it 30 days fall of right after. However, I have followed a relatively strict paleo diet for as much as 3 months and have had amazing results when combined with workouts.

Re: Whole30

So after reading this thread and the part about you can't even make something that resembles a treat even if it's paleo or made with ingrediants allowed on the plan I had to google to see what this is all about.

Restrivice is an understatement!

No treats! NONE

No joy.

Our goal is to suck the will to live right out of your body!!
You will then be skinny but a shell of your former self. Goals!

Is water allowed on this plan?

Yea it's pretty ridiculous. I generally follow paleo but most people who do, do it like 80%, maybe 90% of the time. And it's mostly to build muscle and not to lose weight. I eat legumes (I don't buy into that rationale), I'm never giving up ice cream Chat Icon and I consume alcohol in moderation. It's just that most of the time I follow the principles, especially gluten and soy. Whole30 is just a month of pure misery.

Sorry we hijacked your thread by bashing the diet in question Chat Icon

Re: Whole30

So I finished the Whole30 round a few days ago. It didn't feel that restrictive b/c there are lots of things you can eat, just might not normally gravitate toward. Like sweet potatoes for breakfast. :)

You feel full after eating a meal with tons of protein, veg & healthy fat, therefore don't have the want or need to snack. I never felt deprived or hungry.

It really changed my perspective on food. Eliminating sugar makes such a difference - I think that was the biggest thing for me.

I highly recommend it!!

I keep failing at it a week in. Any tips you can share to be successful?

Planning ahead is a huge factor. So you don't have opportunities to slip, or can at least navigate them better. I prep as much as possible for meals on weekends (roast veggies, make mashed sweet potatoes).

I had a few social functions during the 30 days and brought my own compliant meal, drinks or snacks. I only ate out a couple of times and was very careful about choices.
I think once you get past the 10/11 day hump, your cravings are gone and you start seeing results.
The first week is hard b/c you're adjusting to the new diet and don't feel so hot, but then it all comes together. So you have to stick it out!! It's completely worth it.

Read "it Starts With Food" and you'll understand what processed food does to you, and you'll be motivated.

So I know you are not supposed to weigh or measure yourself while doing it as the point is to eat better, not focus on losing weight, but curious did anyone lose weight?

I lost 9 pounds but the other results were more incredible - my skin, mood, energy and other things.
