Who is doing the cord blood banking w/ poll
DH and I haven't talked about this in awhile and have to make a decision soon.
If you are banking it - is there a specific reason behind it (sickness in the family that you are worried about etc)
Also, if you are banking it - who are you using and why?

We're not. We have the money to, but I've just read up on it and have found that in 99% of cases you can use a public cord bank to correct a problem. We also don't have anything that runs in our family that we are concerned about.

We're not, ever since I found out that a child's own cord blood can't always be used to treat him, plus no one really knows how many years the cells remain viable, not to mention...75 percent of the blood is discarded because they don't contain enough stem cells for transplants.
We also dont have any family history of blood/bone marrow disorders.

Great article. This is what I believe:

They argue that many more people would benefit from cord blood if it were routinely stored and released to those who need it most. Keeping cord blood in a private bank, they say, is a classic example of "me first" thinking, because the chances your own family will ever need the blood are very low. Estimates range from 1 in 1,400 to 1 in 200,000, depending on who you ask."
