When your child has a cold and fever do you

bring them to see the PED right away?
DD woke up with a runny nose this morning , I just checked her fever ind it's 100.3. I called the ped office to talk to the ped or have him call me back later and the receptionist said to bring her in after 4pm (she didn't talk to the ped or anything) .
I gave DD Tylenol and put her down for a nap. I'm going to wait and see how she is after her nap and maybe bring her in tomorrow morning instead.

What do you normally do in this situation? Just curious.

When DD was a newborn I did.

But now, at 19 months, I normally dont. My ped doesnt consider anything over 100.5 a fever (rectally) and that wuldnt even worry me b.c its a low grade fever. I dont even give her anything for that if she is acting fine.

I tend to bring her to the Dr for bad coughs though but not so much a regular cold/fever

Unless DC is less than 6 months, never - especially if the fever is reduced after I give her something. After the third day I will usually go to the Dr. if the fever still persists.

Only if they were a newborn or had a secondary symptom.

I'm a BTDT though. Most new moms take them in until they get that peace of mind where they feel they can judge illnesses better.

I worry A LOT so even when DD has a cold but no fever I bring her in , just to be safe. I get so upset and anxious when DD is sick , especially when she has fever, which almost never happens. So now I'm trying to remain calm and see how things go. I will def bring her in tomorrow morning even if she doesn't have fever, just to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection or something, but I feel like it can wait today. Unless she still has fever after her nap .
Oh and DD is 2.5 .

As a baby yes, as a toddler no. Now that he is 2.5, if its a low grade fever and his ten millionth cold....I just let it run its course.

Before he was a year old, yes. Now, not so much. We are there often enough as it is. Chat Icon

When they are less than 6 months, yes I would take them for a low grade fever (not a runny nose though).

I call the office when she has a fever...and we discuss if I need to bring her in (based on her other symptoms).

I'd rather keep her home than expose her to more germs by bringing her in unnecessarily.

No, not even when he was a NB. I'd call and see what they say first. Even now at a year, i'll call MAYBE if it goes over 102, and that's only if it hasn't gone down after motrin and tylenol. I like to limit his time at the peds to well visits if I possibly can, there's too many germs there and if it's just a cold, there's nothing they can do for him so why expose him to anything else...

Well I ended up not taking DD to the ped today bc she had no fever all day. BUT come 6 pm and it was high again, gave her Tylenol and she was fine, she just woke up crying and it's 101.7 AND now she has a terrible cough, sounds like a chest congestionChat Icon
I guess we are going to see the ped tomorrow morning after all Chat Icon

cold no. fever yes, well, maybe not the same day with my toddler, but i will take her in, since so far, shes 2.5 ,and every cold/fever has either been an ear infection or croup that she needed steroids for
