when your child has a bad cough

what do you give them if anything?
DD has been sick for few days now , fever, ear infection and terrible cough, really bad chest congestion. We saw her ped on Friday, her lungs are clear, he gave us antibiotics for her ear infection and a prescription for a nebulizer(spl), prescription for a sterile water (for the nebulizer) and a prescription for a steroid medication , just one dose . But said not to get them yet, he said to try a cool mist humidifier and just watch her. She doesn't have wheezing or anything , no more fever ,but is coughing non stop all day and nigh. She keeps waking up at night ,we haven't gotten a good night sleep since last week.
I'm going to wait and see how she is tonight and tomorrow morning and then call the ped , see if he wants me to start using a nebulizer with sterile water or give her steroid (which I don't really want to do at all)

But I'm just curious , what do you give your DC when/if they have a bad cough that won't go away?

I'd ask your ped, mine does not recommend any cough medicine until DS is five
