when you buy gifts for people when you are on vacation do you...

buy only things related to the place you are visiting? For example do you buy key chains, tee shirts, shot glasses etc with the state or country's name on them only?Or do you buy things that are not necessarily unique to the place you are visting?.
i ask bc my mom got back form california and she bought everyone gifts but some stuff was not unique to callifornia.For example she got me a sterling silver bracelt that she bought in a jewerlry excahnge ( similar to what we have in midtown) Its very nice and i know it was$ but its not like she couldnt get it here.

I appreciate it dont think i am being ungrateful I just found it odd. Dh got a hat form a local gofl course that was a normal git to being back.She got many family and friends gifts like mine,not unique to californai.

I usually get lured to things.....I'll see a bracelet and think my friend would love it....so I would buy it regardless if it had the name of the place visited on it or not......Most of the time I'll get things with the name but not always...

Depends on what it is & who it is for. I know that the carribean is the place to buy jewelry from. Never EVER will you find in the states what you can get in the carribean. The prices are amazing too! So, as for jewelry, I would def buy in the carribean before I would buy in the states. I have bought a Giuseppe Armani crucifix for my parents in Aruba & paid half the price of what they were selling it for in Fortunoff. Other things like keychains, magnets & stuff like that I always make sure it indicates the place we bought it from.

I appreciate it when they DON'T buy me things unique to where they are visiting, unless they are somewhat generic. I don't like t-shirts, hats, etc. that say where they are. I'd rather have something nice (albeit generic if it so happens to be) with a story about where it came from, than something really theme-y or branded with the name of the place. I'll never wear any of that.

I don't buy too many souvenirs for people when I travel, but if I do, it's often for local items (jewelry, hand-made things, etc.) That way, there is some reason to why I bought it when on the trip, but it's not the gaudy "My friend went to XXXX, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt." kind of present.

I don't buy t-shirts, keychains or tchotchkes.

I bring back things I'd like to receive: local liquor, food things (special chocolates or pastries I can't find at home), bath products (with monoi oil from Tahiti), sarongs, etc.

Sometimes, it depends on what I want to buy someone. I would have to say most gifts are from the place I am visiting, but I don't think it has to be.

Usually I do. But I have gotten my mom and sister jewelry from my vacations as well. If I do I will also buy them something unique to the place I went.
