When/how to introduce the sippy cup?
How and when did you first introduce the sippy cup to DC? I know we need to do it soon (she is 9+months)- DD only drinks formula in her bottle...

We introduced the sippy at 6 months with water in it and gave it at every meal. Still do.
But now at almost 10 months, i'm going to switch it to formula instead of water.

dc is almost 9 months and i try to give him a sippy cup with water after every meal, he hasnt figured it out though, and mostly uses it as a teether, but i keep trying

thanks for the advice! had they ever had water in their bottle before you gave it to them? should i try the water first or try with the formula??

I gave DS a sippy at about 6 months with every meal....he did nothing but play with it and use it as a teether until about 14 months. Now he uses it all day and only gets a bottle in the AM and before bed. I only put water in it...I have tried milk and he will drink it, but not as much as if he had the bottle.

DD started using an open cup at 6 months (me holding it) and a straw cup at 10 months. i don't plan to use a sippy.

I started giving it to Emerson around 5 months however, she's clueless. She just likes to chew the spout. On the other hand, she's actually been able to sip from a real cup and swallow since about that time so I'm guessing she might never really take to a sippy cup. We'll see.

That is how it went with Ale too -- but I would reintroduce them every few days. I probably started at 10 months. She actually learned to drink from my straw in a soda glass while in a restaurant at 12 onths or so. I made a slurping sound, and she caught on immediately. So after that, the sippy was a cinch!
ETA - only water. She would never drink milk out of it and still won't - now she uses a "real" cup for milk.
